This week has been crazy busy at work so it has been rough working in the running time.  Also, found out that my daughter has the flu so I stayed with her while my wife ran some errands so couldn't get outside but was able to get in 6 miles on the treadmill.  I just wanted to do a real easy recovery run today anyway.  Since my legs were shot yesterday I thought it would be best to take it real easy today.  I felt better today and hopefully with the easy day tomorrow will be even better.  I am praying for a quick recovery for my daughter.  She is in the school play and their big performance is tomorrow night.  Right now it doesn't look good for her to make it.  Also, praying that the rest of the family doesn't get it.  She has been really sick the last few days.

Hope she feels better soon. We got hit a couple of weeks ago...not pleasant. Hey, quick question. My sister lives in West Lafayette, Indiana and has been starting to run. I think she ran a 10-miler last fall. Anyway, I'm hoping to run a marathon with her within the next year or two. Would you recommend either of the Indianapolis marathons or would you suggest something more like Chicago? I realize they are much different experiences. For us, it would be the comradery on a course that is fairly "easy" for a first-time marathoner.

That's great that your sister has started running. There are three good marathons in the area to choose from Chicago and two fall Indy marathons. I ran Chicago and it was great for fan support along the way but it is a huge marathon (40,000 runners) so depends if you like the crowds or not. The weather at Chicago has been hot the last two years but that is not normal for this area. There are two Indy marathons in the fall. The Indianapolis marathon is a small marathon that runs a lot of the way through a park so it has some nice parts but also some hills and it only has around a 1000 marathoners so there won't be a lot of other runners around. I ran this as my first marathon and had a good experience. The newer marathon in Indy is the Monumental Marathon. I ran the half in this one last fall and thought it was great. The course is pancake flat and runs through downtown Indy. This is a mid-size race around 5000 including the half. It is the first week in Nov so the weather should be cool. I think all three are good and have there pros and cons depending on what you are looking for. I am thinking about running the Monumental as my next marathon. One thing you need to be aware of is Chicago sells out fast so if you want to run that one you have to register early. Also, if you want to stay downtown you need to book your hotel early. If you decide on one of the Indy marathons I can give you a bunch of recommendations on places to stay, eat, etc or I have a spare room if you are interested. Here are the links to the marathons:

thanks Jim! The Monumental looks attractive for what we have in mind.
