Really felt like fall this morning.  It was 52, cloudy and very windy.  The wind made it feel colder than it really was.  I planned to do a tempo run this morning.  I wanted to do 5 miles at around 6:40 pace.  I ran a couple of miles to get warmed up and felt ok but legs still felt tired and heavy.  After the 2 mile warmup started the tempo and here are the splits:

1st - 6:42

2nd - 6:35

3rd - 6:30

4th - 6:23

5th - 6:17

Turned out to be a good workout.  I was very happy that I was able to lift the pace each mile and I felt pretty relaxed on all but the last mile.  The last mile was dead back into a head wind so I pushed pretty hard on that one.  So 5 miles in 32:27 for an average of 6:29 per mile.  I ran an 8k race back in Aug and my avg pace was 6:31 so this makes me feel like I am making good progress because it was a great day today with the wind and I definitely didn't run this as hard as a race.

Awesome run! Probably why you felt a little sluggish on Wed.

Thanks! I think you are right. Many times I under estimate the effects of my workouts and forget that I am not 20 anymore and don't recover as fast.

Great run Jim! Awesome last mile especially into the wind.
