Minor Details!

Well, I excitedly went to register for Boston this morning as it opened up to those who beat their qualification time by 10 minutes ... unfortunately they updated the requirements to state,

"Important Note:  the 59 seconds allowed for qualifying times aren't applicable for those registering before Monday, September 19."

Yep, that excludes me!  Guess I get to try again Friday, when it opens up to those who beat their time by 5 minutes!  It will be interesting to see at what point it sells out, and if they will provide any statistics as to what percentage full the race capacity is at the close of each wave.  I am positive I will get in as I will be one of the faster ones registering in the BQ minus 5 minute registration window, but I am sure there are thousands of people that did not qualify by more than 5 minutes, that are anxiously awaiting to see if they will be granted entry!

Good luck, from one Friday guy to another. Sorry about the 59 seconds.

I hope both of you get in! Maybe it's good I didn't qualify since I'm sure I'd be competing with both of you to get in :-)

I think you guys will both be good to go, but good luck. You can fill me and Preston in on all the lessons you learned for next year!

Sounds like a lot us will be there! Congrats. I, too, am very curious as to at what point it fills up this year. Hopefully, they will provide the stats. Too bad they don't have a running count of registered runners.

Thanks guys, I am not to concerned about getting in ... I just hope most who qualified get in! I did read an article which stated they will not be releasing any stats, at least while registration is still open. I can understand that, but really think they should provide stats after as to what percent it was full at the end of each registration wave, and what the final cutoff for qualifying time ends up being. From what I can surmise, it is the fastest times that will get in next week, but they really are not clear as to how that is affected by age groups.

Anyway, in fairness to those that are trying to qualify for 2013, they should really provide stats so that people can make a realistic determination on what they need to run to realistically get in, because even though they are tightening the standards by 5 minutes next year, I still think it will sell out before registration closes, meaning the slower qualifiers will still get blocked out even with having reached the new qualifying standard. My goal is a sub 3:05 in October, so I plan on being 20 minutes faster than the new standards ... in the event I elect to run it 2 years in a row. :)
