Went to an open track meet at Emory University put on by the Atlanta Track Club.  Nice cooler weather in evening, unfortunately that did not help tightness in legs, and foolishly I did not warm up properly before the 400m!  Ran first 200m in about 30 seconds, which I soon realized was too fast, as at about 250m I was pretty much done!!  Afterward, I felt tweaking in my hamstring, so I opted not to run the 1500 & 3000m.  Note to self, do not run 16.5 & 7.5 miles the two days before a track meet!  They hold these the next 4 weeks, so I hope to make it back, as it would be nice to establish PR benchmarks at these distances for future comparison, although I definitely know I will never be a track guy ... there were some smokin fast dudes there!

So, basically it turned into a recovery day ... have to decide what Wednesday will be!

I'm always scared of what will happen if I sprint, feels like something will break for sure. Which is kind of weird considering the distances we run. Anyway, nice try, sounds like it would be fun to see what those kinds of races are like.

I know I'm not very fast but the track meet thing sounds fun... Well it probably wouldn't be for me after the firts one where they announce "Would I Just Run get off the track so we can start the next race!" I guess I'll just go to the local track and use my imagination and run a few races against myself :)

Joe, it is something I would like to get better at, as I play soccer & bursts of speed can be very advantageous! Track is a totally different sport though, definitely not recommended with stiff legs from a recent long run!

IJR - That's funny! I never considered myself slow until Tuesday night! They invite people to line up for each heat based on projected time ... and when they asked for runners around 52 seconds for a 400, I knew I was in the wrong place! lol Eventually, after several heats in the 50's, and the remaining people dwindling, they said "ok, now for the geezers heat"! I was determined to finish in the Top 3, until I got to the 250m mark, I felt worse coming down the last 100m stretch than the last mile of a marathon!
