Got my free Karhu shoes in mail today (won them by beating 'the bear' in a 5k 10 days ago)

Since they were all laced up & feeling good, I stepped out for a fast mile.

5:46, then 1/2 mile cooldown at 8:20.

Shoes felt great, but I felt like I was going to die running that fast in 80 degree heat!

Just wanted to get a fast mile in them, so hopefully I can contain myself and run an easy 7 or 8 in them later tonight. If they continue to feel good as I break them in, I think I will wear them at Boston.  They are 8.8 ounces, which is still pretty light, and they definitely feel like they provide more cushioning then my Adidas Adios ... which I think are 7.5 ounces.

I like the listed 'benefits' on the website:  "Precision engineering providing ultimate forward efficiency."

Hey- hope you like the shoes! What corral you in for Boston? You have an idea of pacing yet? I'm setting NO pr there, curious of what you were hopeful of.

Thanks Dan, I am in Wave 1, Corral 5.

Boston pace/goal ... hmmm, that is the million dollar question. Short answer is hope to finish with a smile on my face!

If I had to guess a time goal, I guess it would be sub 3:20. My back up goal is to finish without hobbling! If that can't happen, I will probably start seeking out beer from crowd, and just try to finish smiling!

Since it is a downhill start, my plan is to probably go out at a 7:00 min pace, just hang onto it as long as it is comfortable, then adjust based on how I am feeling. Let's just say I don't have lofty expectations, but I have run marathons on low mileage before & surprised myself.

My October 3:06 marathon guarantees my entry for next year, so there is no pressure. If I can get through it healthy, I have an opportunity to be a pacer at the Poconos marathon May 20, which I would really like to do, so I guess my only real goal is to stay healthy!

Cool, I'm in 7 so jump back before the race and we can chat before you head back up. I'm definitely not ready for sub 3:20 otherwise I'd ride ya down those hills.

Nice deal on the pacer!

When are you arriving in Boston? Any family traveling with you? I just booked a flight getting in Fri morning. My bro is driving up from NYC Sat & we are staying at a friend of his house. We definitely need to hook up at some point.

nice run JG -

It will take a little while to get used to the current temps. Those miles run sound a lot like mine, except for the sub 6 mile. Endurance just isn't there right now.

Good to hear your back running with no pain. It's exciting reading you guys conversation about Boston :-)
