Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

I don't remember if I ran 70.0 miles this week, or something a little higher, (but less than 71) so I will err on the side of marking my mileage a little low for the week.  I ran my first 20 mile run since December this Saturday, which was exciting for me as I am finally feeling a little better about my foot and knee health.  I have actually felt pretty good for a while now as far as speed is concerned.  I feel fast, and I feel like I could run fast race times.  However, my mileage has been low, and I would probably crash if I were to run a marathon.  I need to up my mileage significantly if I want to run a good marathon in the fall (only one marathon this year, but probably a bunch of halfs).  After the 20 mile run my legs felt pretty drained.  I could tell that it was a distance that I had not run in a while.

We did run 7.5 miles of the run fast, running a 6 mile tempo in the middle of the run (1.5 miles on the river trail repeated 4 times back and forth), and then running 1.5 miles fast at the end.  During the 6 mile tempo we started out slow hitting the first 1.5 in about 8:48 if my memory serves me right, and then picking up the pace and running 8:35, 8:30.  I can't remember the exact time for the last 1.5, but I remember running the last .5 at about 5:00 pace.  We ran the 1.5 miles at the end of the run in about 8:20.
