Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

Justin and I ran the Idaho Falls Half Marathon today.  We both had good results though my intestinal distress and tight calves did not make it fun.  I ran 1:15:32 for fist place.  More thoughts and splits later.

We started on the steepest part of the course from the start.  Craig and I took off at the front and ran strong together for the first 8.5 miles. Craig ran really well and was great to run with...nice to have friends to keep you going!   I had intestinal issues from mile 1 on and my calves were gone by mile 6 but I kept pushing.  The first 5.5 miles are down the big Sunnyside hill and are fast but we did not over run it this year.  The rest of the way in to the finish is nearly pancake flat.

About mile 6 I told Craig I would have to stop at the PoP but I was able to make it to the finish (barely! plus the PoP was in the middle of a lawn with the sprinklers dousing it) and my gut has been bad all day.  We were honked at while running on Sunnyside (such nice Idaho Falls drivers...supporting our passion with a honk and a yell of encouragement..not!) At 8.5 I threw in a surge when Craig got water and Tyler M. was chasing us the whole way (ended in in second in 1:17:02) which made my decision to not stop pretty clear.  My calves started feeling better around 9 miles and I tried to push a bit harder to get to the finish to find the restroom.  As I entered Tauphaus Park I looked back and saw the guys not too far back so I knew I could not settle down and it appeared Tyler was edging out Craig, prayed for Craig to make a charge.  Pushed hard the last mile to get to the finish.

Good run but the run was not fun today.  Splits: 4:59, 5:32, 5:34, 5:18, 5:39, 5:51, 6:11, 6:09, 6:07, 6:08, 6:05, 6:00, 5:57, 0:12 (0.06).

Great race by the women...1-4 were really close!  Awesome job to Saige and Lynette on new PRs!

Great job to Gray for putting on such a quality event!  Nice to see some many runners friends out this morning.

Justin ran a new PR of 1:29:36!  He is quick.

Right now in the half marathon series...the Shadley's are in 1st and 2nd place!

Kami did awesome in her Century ride today too!  She is so strong on the bike and has found a fun and supportive group to ride with...she had a lot of fun today.

It was really great to do this. Wish I could've stayed with you more maybe it will take Justin to make me go faster next time. Great job and way to hold on to that stomach I could tell it was killing you.

Flying! I think I saw you say you were running St. George this year. Quite interested to see the buildup to that. You've had such a strong year.

Congrats to Justin too. Sub-90 and lots of time to beat dad!

Great race! Love those first splits. I'll run up that hill from my brother's house so I know how steep it is. Sounds like a pretty fast course.

Can't wait until Justin beats his old man.
