Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in < 4years.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

6 miles slow with Moxie at 4:30am...very tired after yesterday's activities.  The ball of my right foot started to hurt again before work and my back was really sore from the start...time to get the massage scheduled for tomorrow.  (TSD5)

We had a great bithday party for our son (theme: Greek Gods) with all his friends.   But unfortunately, we wer up late with a downer issue...out 18 year old cat is dying and we had to have the kids say goodbye.  Luckily she did not pass on my son's birthday but we will have to deal with it today.  My wife and I have had her since right after we got married, she will be missed.

6 miles at lunch on a warm day at a 7:15 pace.  Legs as heavy as my heart for this run.

I saw one of the stupidest people I have ever seen on my way to work.  A woman was riding a bike on a cracked and bumpy sidewalk with no helmet...talking on a cell phone...steering with one hand...with a baby in a front loader baby carrier on her chest!   Why are people like this allowed to pro-create?

So i am getting a little nervous for the Pocatello marathon. What is your best advise on what my training should be like for these last few weeks and for the race? I didn't realize that it is very downhill that first half. Would it be best to focus on downhill training or uphill?

From jtshad on Tue, Aug 09, 2011 at 15:45:24 from 204.134.132.225

The Pocatello marathon is very runnable, but it has its challenges. The first half is downhill, some of it pretty step. But if you run it smart (i.e. not too agressively, unlike me in 2009) it won't beat you up (like say, Des News). The second half is very legit...some really good rollers. So, run the first half fast but controlled to save your legs for a solid second half. See my race report from 2009 to get an idea mile by mile.

Sorry about your kitty Jeff, I know she's been ill for a while now. Sorry you had to see such an idiot this morning too, unfortunately there are a lot of them around! Kisses to your family.

Sorry about your kitty but Justin's birthday sounds like a lot of fun.

I just had an idea. Sometime between now and Twin/St. George do you want to meet halfway for a long run? Not sure exactly where that would be.

Sorry about your cat. But tell Justin happy b-day.
