Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

Another beautiful morning for a run.  So I headed out the door at the normal early hour, feeling good and did a easy 9 miles this morning, progressing from an 8:30 to a 7:30 pace over the course of the run.  Ran the standard route (Sunnyside) with a couple of neighborhood loops thrown in.  Nice reflective run as I ponder turning 40 today...dang how did that happen?    Will get out for a 6-8M lunch run today as well.

total time: 1:10:56  (Trigon 2 - 183 miles)

10M at lunchtime from the office, down the greenbelt and through Snake River Landing to Sunnyside road.  A beautiful day to run, not too hot (but warming up as the run progressed) and no wind (although a little breeze would have been nice).  Started easy, then about 3M with 0.5M fartleks at MP (5:36-6:15) with 0.25M rest.  Turned around at the 4.7M mark then just ran comfortable (6:35ish) all the way back.  Nice run...think of finishing off about 6M tonight to hit the 40K mark for my 40th birthday, we'll see if time allows.

total time: 1:06:00  (Trigon 1 - 422 miles)

Happy Birthday old man!

From Walter on Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 10:18:15

Happy Birthday you old fart! Now get off my lawn! The Masters category will have some new competition. Now I can get my age bracket back for a few more years! Dont do anything too physical today and look into a med alert program that they advertise when you've fallen and cant get up. Oh speaking of up you'll have to start looking into getting viagra too. Let me know how it goes.

From Jon on Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 10:30:39

Happy Birthday (again)!

Walter- you make me laugh! How do you think of all those things? Jeff, you'll have to watch out for that guy!

From jtshad on Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 10:38:26

Thanks Walter, you smart a$$! I will just have to raid your supply since you have that hernia taking you out of action! I will send you the med alert to help you when you drop down on the next job. :-)

Jon, yeah with friends like these...

From JimF on Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 14:08:54

Happy Birthday! Turning 40 is tough but at least as a runner you get the benefit of moving into the Master's category. Should be fun in your upcoming races.

From Lucia on Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 14:54:32

Happy birthday Jeff! You guys will get in trouble for saying things like, viagra, and hernia in the blog! :)

From jtshad on Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 14:57:32

Thanks, Lucia. We only get in trouble if we put them in the same sentence or if 2 of the words are back to back...honest, it is in the rule book!

From Jon on Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 15:18:11

Looks like Lucia is in trouble!

Jeff, aren't you supposed to do 40 miles, not 40K, on your birthday? Unless you moved to a metric country in the past week...

From jtshad on Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 15:20:19

Only if you are Clyde and have nothing but time on your hands. Us working stiffs have to make due with what time we have!

From Dan S on Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 16:20:23

Happy birthday! Maybe now that you are in my decade you'll realize how hard it is to run so fast and slow down a little! Not likely, I am sure you will just go faster and farther.

From Lyman on Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 17:34:40

Jeff,

Have a great B-Day! No better way than to start with a run. You are going to completely RULE in the Masters Division.

From Rachel on Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 17:42:05

"Happy Birthday to you... Happy Birthday to you... you look like a champion, and you run like one too!"

Ta Da! Happy 40th Jeff - I hear life begins at 40 :)

From Jon on Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 23:38:11

Rachel- I think you got the lyrics wrong...

"Happy Birthday to you... Happy Birthday to you... you look like an old guy, and you run like one too!" :)

From walter on Tue, Jul 15, 2008 at 00:00:18

Ouch Jon, just remember pay backs! I only have 3 years. you on the other hand...

From Logan on Tue, Jul 15, 2008 at 10:50:40

Happy Birthday Jeff. Hopefully you had a great day.

From jtshad on Tue, Jul 15, 2008 at 11:04:38

Jon, that is especially true in the mornings...my run today I FELT really old and I was shuffling along.

Walter, I could go off on Jon about still being wet behind the ears, but your got to draw the line somewhere.

From jill on Tue, Jul 15, 2008 at 22:31:24

Ah- happy belated birthday Jeff! Here's to another 40 years of great running and feeling good! Congrats on all you have accomplished- enjoy your birthday week!

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 20:09:01

Exciting day! Cannot wait to turn 40 myself :-)

From Lybi on Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 17:18:37

I just feel bad for all those great running masters who are going to get whooped by YOU! Happy birthday, Jeff!

From MichelleL on Mon, Jul 21, 2008 at 15:33:09

Happy belated birthday! You know my husband turned 40 on July 6th. At 40 you aren't even half way into life, though I can't agree with Sasha that I can't wait to get there.

From Bonnie on Mon, Jul 21, 2008 at 15:38:24

Hi Jeff,

Happy belated birthday (I have not been diligent about keeping up with blog reading lately!). Nice to have you among the master's group!

Bonnie

From Tom on Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:41:07

I'm a bit late noticing but I'll join everyone else in wishing you a Happy 40th! Of course I'm a bit bummed out to see yet another runner joining the Masters ranks that can kick my butt! At least I can take solace in the fact you can pretty much kick everyone's fanny in the the 40+ ranks.
