Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

Short and quick report:  2:42:15, good enough for 9th overall and 1st Master (after a bit of working with the RD and timing folks to clarify an issue with another runner).

Bad GI issues again at mile 13 and 15 lost me about 3 minutes real time and more like a 5-7 minute impact.  Also a bad stitch at mile 17 caused issues, nearly dropped but kept running so the St. George Running Center Team could win the team competition.

Overall ok with the race considering my issues which I need to figure out.  Really wanted to lower my Master's course record on this good day for running but my body let me down a little.  I will take a top 10 and 1st Master's finish any day at a race like this with the competition that was there.

Splits:  6:13, 5:37, 5:42, 5:57, 5:46, 5:47, 5:46, 6:19 (hill), 6:23 (hill), 5:45, 5:49, 6:21, 6:28 (PoP stop), 5:56, 6:08, 7:19 (long PoP stop), 6:12, 5:48, 6:11 (stitch), 6:25, 6:09, 6:09, 6:25, 6:41, 6:30, 6:28, 2:03 (0.35 mile).

Great to see my good friends and catch up and see our kid's get along so well.  Looking forward to seeing folks again soon at St. George.

Big snafu at the awards ceremony.  The "official results" that were used to give out the awards were wrong and the race official would not listen to us (Clyde, Dave, me, Bill) as we told them that the individual they showed as the 8th place finisher and first master was incorrect.  So they announced the Master winners with me as second.  After some more consternation, Bill remembered this individual ran SLC in April.  I looked up his result on my Blackberry and showed it to Hyrum...a 3:53 finish.  What happened was that this individual registered for the full then ran the half and did not tell anyone so his result initially showed up as the first Master.  After clarify and verify his start at the half, Hyrum gave me the Master's title, but now the change bumps others as well.  Too bad they would listen to us BEFORE handing out the awards!

Spent the rest of the day with the Murphy's...playing in the pool with the kids, kickin' back with burgers, beer, wine and great company!!  Now this was a memorable day!

Sorry the body was not cooperating, but nice work with holding on for Top 10 and Top Masters. That's always a good thing. Good seeing you and the family.

Still, absolutely amazing!!! I looked for you, but was unsuccessful! :(

I did happen to talk for quite a while with Hillary (sp?), the overall winner. Very cool guy. He talked to my hubby about really wanting to find someone to sponsor him so that he could move here from Kenya. Interesting.

Seriously ... you are beyond incredible!! Bummed that I missed you. Next time! :)

I was that way last year too Jeff. I ate at the brick oven the night before and gorged myself. I talked to Hyrum about getting money for the Masters and he told me he will do it next year. (of course right?) Nice job getting it done! I told this to Bill and Dustin that if this course was in ST. George, it would be fast. Not here in 6500' land. Say hi to Rob for me and we should try to get together soon!

Great job Jeff. Sorry to hear about the struggles. Hey you didn't happen to leave a fastrunningblog jacket behind did you? I picked one up by the bag drop at the start.

Way to take home some CASH and defend your title. Good to see ya hope you feel better in coming races. See ya in OCT. "Stay cool over the summer, don't do too many drugs. Let's kick it sometime. Peace". (how do you like my yearbook entry)?

Great job on your race Jeff.Very impressive. I hope you get the issues figured out soon, that's a bummer to have something like that affect your races. Congrats though, well done.

From Neil on Sun, Jun 12, 2011 at 12:41:18 from 12.185.46.2

Congrats on the Masters win! FWIW, part of me enjoys hearing that you elites have your struggles as well. Gives hope to us mid-packers that we're not totally effing it up every time. :) Get better and attack the next one. Safe travels back to IF.

Mabye we always need a "team" thing, because like you it was the ONLY thing that kept me moving. Of course the amazing award was such a reward - couldn't they muster up a gift certificate for dinner or something?! But great seeing you again and meeting your family. Maybe next time the race will be a good experience for us also!

From Jon on Sun, Jun 12, 2011 at 14:15:20 from 74.177.77.120

Thanks everyone.

Dustin, nope not my jacket but thanks for asking.

Dave, yeah kinda lame that they didn't do more after all the build up for the team competition.

From Mark on Mon, Jun 13, 2011 at 11:55:42 from 24.129.132.78

Great job Jeff! Sorry to hear about the timing snafu and the GI issues, but sounds like an awesome race, overall. I think this would be a fun one to try sometime.

From Dave S on Mon, Jun 13, 2011 at 12:50:10 from 4.254.217.45

Nice job! congrats on the Masters win and 9th overall. It Amazes me that you can still run that good of time even on a good day without the GI problems and PoP stops.

From flatlander on Mon, Jun 13, 2011 at 19:37:33 from 76.31.26.153

Great job, very impressive top-10 finish. Glad you got the placement thing worked out.

Jeff, Sorry the stomach did not behave. It was great catching up with you and meeting your family Friday. It was also great seeing you finish. Despite what you were dealing with you managed to pull through that last mile.

From sflores on Wed, Jun 15, 2011 at 10:01:05 from 65.202.194.194

Sounds like a cluster at the ceremony! But you are kicking please do not swear on your runs! You would have been in the 2:30's if you didn't have any issues! I always enjoy reading your blog on races! Keep up the good work!
