Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in < 4years.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

Slept in and went out for an easy 5 mile run with Moxie when Kami left to go spinning at the gym.  The kid's stayed at my parents last night so we just took this morning easy.  After dropping Moxie off at home, I drove the start of the local 5k race.

After registering, ran an easy 2 miles in 14:50 to keep warm on the cool, very windy and slightly rainy day.  Hooked up with Gray at the start and we took off.  It was an out and back course, first mile with the wind, next half and half, third mile into a good headwind.  The first mile was flat, then rollers for the second and flat for the remainder.  Just tried to keep up and in touch with Gray on this yucky morning running controlled.  1-5:30ish, 2-5:50ish, 3-5:40ish, 0.1 - 0:14 for an overall time of 17:20ish.  Not too happy with the time, but the conditions, my left calf and my disdain for 5k's made it more acceptable.

Drove home and ran another 5 miles in 37 minutes to get my mileage for the week to where I wanted it.  Now for a day with the family.

Nice job on all accounts! Dang impressive for someone who is rehabbing a calf and has no love for 5Ks! Seriously, you are not happy with your pace and I am looking at it going ... "Holy crap that is FAST!!!!" :) :) :)

Enjoy your weekend!

5k's....suck. ;) Nice job, now get that calf better!

Sweet, nice job.

You should have been down here in Utah with us! Your body doesn't even know what to do with 3.1 miles, it's just getting going. Besides, I had two extra Peeps.

From Rob Murphy on Sat, Apr 16, 2011 at 19:20:29 from 24.10.248.6

True story Jeff. Steve actually brought a little ziplock bag of Peeps to the starting line.

5K'S - A NECESSARY EVIL. Good work my friend.

You're an animal, Jeff. Love the pre-race routine and commentary-decided to take the morning easy, eh?

Great stuff. Hope the calf starts feeling better.

Write it up to a nice training run...

Jeff, Your a true distance runner thats all and those 5ks are always good for you in my opinion. By the way I have always admired your persistence and consistency in this sport. It ranks right up there with Sasha's in my opinion. Good luck at UVM.

Nice job on the win! I also do not like 5Ks!

From Seth on Sun, Apr 17, 2011 at 17:04:41 from 75.169.119.15

Nice running! At least you got some speed work in.

Have you tried the Fast Twitch 5's, or know anyone who has? I'm thinking about getting a pair and wonder how they compare to the previous models.

From jtshad on Mon, Apr 18, 2011 at 10:15:33 from 204.134.132.225

Seth, I have a pair of the Fastwitch 5's I just received from Saucony but haven't run in them yet. My whole shoe rotation is about to mileage out so these will likely be part of my new rotation. When I tried them on at a running store recently, they felt really good for my quick 1/4 mile run outside.

Nice job Jeff. I'm right there w/ you on 5k's but I'm sure the local RD's really appreciate your support for their races.
