Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

Slept in a bit today (until 4:30) as a treat to myself for my birthday.  8M easy on a cooler morning.  Nice easy run just reflecting on my old age and trying to wake fully and getting past the "old" feeling in my knees today.  Saw 2 other runners out this morning, one being Andrea.  We stopped and discussed plans for the local half marathon on Saturday.  Planning on a track workout at lunchtime (probably 800's).  (Trigon)

Speedwork at the IF Track.  1M warmup then 6X800's with 400m recovery.  Splits for the 800's:  2:41, 2:41, 2:41, 2:40, 2:37, 2:41.  Effort felt very controlled in all the repeats and I ran them all a bit conservative in the first 400, then sped up in the second 400.  Tailwind on the backstretch which meant a headwind on the homestretch.  0.75M cooldown, with an overall avg. pace of 6:15 for the entire 6M during this session.   I ran in my Tangent 1 for this to help with the turnover.  (Tangent)

While at the track, a couple of ladies showed up with a gaggle of kids on bikes and started farting around on the track.  Normally I wouldn't bother, but these folks just seemed rather ignorant and the kids obnoxious. So I told them that the track is posted for no bikes and told them to get the kids off the track (pluse the kids kept getting in my way on the inner lane and it pissed me off).

Happy Birthday. What a treat to be able to get miles in on your birthday. So many people would be lazy and stay in bed.

Happy Birthday and may you have a wonderful day! I think it's Bastille Day as well so feel free to eat les patisseries!

Your wake up time is very inspiring to me, since right now I'm having to be home from my morning run especially early and I'm not doing to well with earlier rising. It's temporary, but I wish I could do better.

Enjoy your day!

Jeff, Happy Birthday!!! I don't think you are old when you can still "smoke" kids half your age on race day!!!

Thanks everyone!

Yes, it is Bastille Day so pastries it is...Let us all eat cake!!

Sno, I have actually come to really like my early morning runs. While it is tough to get up and feel like you can run, once you get going it is a great start to the day. It is typically cooler and quite on the roads, unlike later in the day. Plus, it is my time, no one can really mess with it and it helps me get time to think, pray, veg...whatever. Good luck with your morning runs!

Happy Birthday. Hope its a great day for you.

Thanks, Jeff! I do love early morning runs - it's the only time for me! But during the next couple of weeks I have to be done even earlier (or cut back miles) because of some construction traffic that messes up Mr. Sno's commute. (I take over parent duty at ~6:15 now.) The difference between rising 4:00 vs. 4:30 is huge for me. By the time I get used to it, I'll probably be back to my normal hours. I think getting to bed earlier is the hard part!

Another belated happy b-day! And I don't care if Marie Antoinette ever actually uttered that infamous phrase, its still solid advice. ;)
