Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

Slept in and went out for my run around 10am after going to the dentist.  10.1 miles in 1:14:30 on a crappy day (cold, windy, cloudy) and with more damn intestinal issues.  I had to stop at 6.5 and 7.5 to alleviate issues.  I was thinking of going longer but by the time I ran by my house I was done.

I'm beginning to think it might be some lactose intolerance (which I have never had) but it seems worse after I have a bowl of cereal for breakfast. I will work on changing my diet in the mornings and see if that helps.

Have you been on any new meds the last few days? Seems like most any meds give me GI grief. But I have also heard of people developing LI even after years of no problems.

Nope, nothing new in my life (besides some additional stress!). It better not be a reaction to my morning cup of joe...gotta have that!

My son is lactose intolerant as a result of his body not forming the lactase enzyme. This is something he grew into this past year. Easy fix though: Almost any drugstore sells inexpensive pills of this enzyme (I like the Target brand). They usually say something on the box like "dairy digestive aid: fast-acting lactase". He chews a pill at the same time that he eats anything with dairy in it. It is the same enzyme our bodies make, so you can have them as often as you need them. I think we get a box of 60 of them for roughly $12. If that doesn't work, you could also try the IBS pills that are usually sold right by them.

Just a thought.

Good luck! :)

Hi Jeff, Could you still be needing a bit more rest from the half and the marathon recently?

I run in to the same issue on occasion which usually involves some combination of over reaching or training at a high level for a while. Throw in some additional life stress, and high acid content drinks such as coffee.. Just a thought from my own past experience. Hope it helps:)

Thanks for the advice! My wife was talking with someone this morning who has an oat intolerance and I notice that I have these issues after eating oat cereal...another possible culprit. I will try a couple of changes in my diet/life to see if it helps.
