Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

A very hard 5M run this morning...not physically but emontionally and mentally.  I learned last night of the death of a very dear friend of mine and I am still having a hard time really believing and understanding it.  Steve lived life to the fullest and was the one person I knew who truly lived life with the motto "Carpe Diem".  He was the person who took me on many a grand adventure (many memorable mountain biking trips to Moab, UT) and who I could always call up to hear about his lastest excursion around the country or world.   From Moab to Maui, from Sturgis to the Costa Rica, from the Gallopogas Islands to Russia, Steve lived life to the fullest!  He was a person you could count of for having the biggest smile around and a ready willingness to be there for a fun time, a beer, or just to share his friendship.  I miss him terribly and have a very heavy heart today.

I will miss you, Steve!

4M at lunch as hard as my legs and heart would take me, which wasn't much as my heart was heavy and thus so were my legs.  1M ok (6:11) as I was working off anger, 1M slower as I fought to keep it together and then repeated this cycle again.  The last 0.5M was very slow as I struggled to keep it together and even not get light headed...could not have run any further.

JT, so sorry to hear of a loss of a great friend. It is never fun to hear bad news, but it seems as if he lived a good life and he was happy, so we can be glad for that. Getting out and running will help you think it out and you can remember all the good times. Take Care and stay strong, just as he would want you to.

Jeff - I'm sorry for your sorrow today and I'll pray for you and his family. Deep friendship is something that never can be replaced, but one thing you have is good memories that will never leave your heart. I'm sorry for your loss. Take it easy today my good friend.

Dedicate your next marathon for your friend and you'll burn up the road.

Jeff--I am very sorry to hear about your loss. It is clear that you guys shared a lot of amazing experiences together and those will live on in your memories. You have my most sincere condolences. "Carpe Diem" is certainly an important reminder to all of us.

Thank you for the notes, everyone. Steve was a great guy whom will be sorely missed. He was an example to me of not getting caught up in the @#$ of the day, but understand life is about the experiences you have with others and the love you leave behind.

My most lasting, vivid (and scary memory) of my time with Steve was when we got caught in flash floods near Moab on the White Rim trail...funny and insanely stupid at the same time!

Kory, thanks for the suggestion, I had already planned last night to dedicate my race at TCM, at least inwardly for me if not in some outward fahion, to my friend.

From RviertonPaul on Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 15:16:14

From wheakory on Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 16:30:57

Jeff - again I'm sorry. Maybe take a few days off from running, or maybe the running would help you cope better.

Did you work with Steve?

From jtshad on Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 16:34:27

I used to work with him for about 7 years then he took a new job in the Denver area, but we stay closed and we visited each other several times over the past 9 years or so. I had another buddy who lived down there as well for about 5 years and we used to try to hook up and have some fun. My last real adventure with him was really we he still lived in IF, but we had some good times when I visited him.
