"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka
"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

| | 10 AM. Sunny, 63-68 degrees, unbreezy. Fairground/Glovers Lane loop.
I'm thinking June is going to be a base maintenance/recovery month. Recovery from what, I don't know. It's not like I've trained for and run a marathon. However, this is my "rookie" year in terms of running consistently, and I want to run much faster in a couple of years or so. That's one reason I'm running just one half and one full marathon this year. If I can keep up a mileage base through next Winter I'll be that much stronger and able to run quality races in 2010. Even then, that will only be my "Sophmore" year. Hopefully by the time I turn 50 years old, I'll be a really solid, strong runner and be able to place well in my age division in small local races. So in July, I'll start increasing my weekly mileage again and hopefully by the end of August I'll have run some 70 mile weeks before tapering for TOU. Anyway, just blogging out loud.

| | Easy 8. Late. Mostly sunny and 73 degrees. From house to LPT out and back. Legs felt a little heavy, but the energy level is high. Lower right leg still sore. The pain seems to move around. Last week it felt like a tight achilles, but now it sort of feels like shin splints. Either way it doesn't feel right. Without the pain I might have gone further today but I'm going to be extra cautious until this clears up.

| | Easy..........six? Bluff trail, sunny, 70 degrees. Leg felt good. Usually that would mean I'd run more, but the new me said "no, go easy and maybe you'll feel good tomorrow too." I'm becoming a better listener in my old age...

Early lunch. Sun, 74 degrees, light breeze. Bluff trail. Rest tomorrow. Medium long on Sunday. More 8's next week. Looks like I passed up last years mileage a couple of days ago. Even though 90% of last years mileage was done during the last 5 months of '08, it's still nice to see.
