"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

I've been making myself get up at 4:45 all week, just to ease back into the habit of early rising, even though I don't leave the house until much later. Next week I'll bump back to 4:30. Man, you take just a couple of weeks off from the early routine and lose it! You are running great miles these days! (envy)

Morning runs are wonderful... when I can get myself to do it. For me I think I will stick to the after work schedule for now.

Wow that is a crazy amount of beans... are you eating them with anything else? Or just plain beans :(~

From JD on Thu, Oct 22, 2009 at 12:46:34 from 70.96.78.157

Sno - that's a good idea, I need to get back into the habit. Man you get up early!

Metcalf - just the beans, and water. I ate a couple of bananas this morning too.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, Oct 22, 2009 at 13:28:41 from 24.8.167.243

Congratulations on the early morning. I'm getting nervous about going back to early mornings after my two weeks off.

What kind of crazy diet are you on?

From Lysa on Thu, Oct 22, 2009 at 15:08:19 from 76.23.52.240

29 oz. of kidney beans??!! Wow. I feel bad for AD. Do you feel the difference when you eat that many beans? What about your disgusting canned spinach? Man, I will never buy that crap again! Sticking with fresh or frozen.

What did you wear this morning? Was it a hat morning?

From JD on Thu, Oct 22, 2009 at 15:32:19 from 70.96.78.157

Carolyn - my diet has really changed over the last year and a half, and even more so in the last few weeks. I've almost completely eliminated high fructose and eat about a tenth of the carbs I used to.

Lysa - don't be dissin' the canned spinach!

I wore shorts, long sleeve tech shirt, glove liners and a light cap...and running shoes.

From Lysa on Thu, Oct 22, 2009 at 17:32:01 from 76.23.52.240

Oh, I WILL diss the canned spinach, just the smell of it made me pukie. Stick to the fresh!!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, Oct 22, 2009 at 21:03:19 from 24.8.167.243

Did you wear socks?

A pickle for dessert? Blechk.

From allie on Thu, Oct 22, 2009 at 21:53:50 from 67.177.43.41

i'm with carolyn. dessert pickles aren't my thing. interesting diet though. have fun with the fiber.

i agree about the early runs. once you get out of the habit it is so hard to wake up early. especially when it's dark and cold. great job getting out there. it really is the best time of day, imo.
