"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Happened to be running by the high school as  the students were let out for lunch. Makes me wonder how we ever survived behind the wheels of our automobiles as teenagers. Seriously.

With all the safety precautions these days that didn't exist when we were kids, it's a wonder any of us survived to adulthood. Just stay away from those teenage drivers now.

Plus, they look like babies. I thought I was so old and cool back then. But it is amazing we are alive when it comes to driving. Especially D & P ing.

Good run.

nice run. great weather today, eh?

i can think of multiple times when i should have died driving in HS.

the ultimate one was when we attempted "extreme bobsledding". it was the middle of winter and the roads were covered in snow. we found a good-sized hill, rolled down the windows, put the car in neurtal and got out and held onto the car doors as we ran down the hill, each person jumping in through the windows one by one just like the bobsledders do it. the "driver" ended up slipping, and never made it inside. so the car was rolling down the icy hill without a driver. luckily, the passenger bobsledder was able to take control of the wheel. yep. so stupid. hope my mom never reads this one. :)

Did you change your picture again... I swear it was different a minute ago.

jd, i hope your dog has an easier time reading the paper now.

allie, i now have a goal in life...

I really think its those driving skills we pick up in high school that get us through the rest of life. Because of my ability to multitask while driving, I can now drink a latte with no cup holder while driving a stick shift. I draw the line at texting.

Carolyn - I try to stay away from all drivers in general.

Lysa - oh my goodness we were careless folks back then. But it was for a noble cause...urinating.

Allie - your story gave me the willies! It's good you're still here to dominate the marathons.

Lori - yeah I changed it. I'm not too good with this computer stuff.

Nevels - Buddy prefers contacts, but he keeps losing them, so we finally got him some eyeglasses.

Auntieem - that's a good perspective! I've been focused on pairing down my multitasking proclivities while driving lately.
