"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

AM - 7 miles easy around the hood. 67F, breezy.

I read on an experienced runners blog yesterday how his legs always felt sluggish during a taper, so I'm not going to worry about how sluggish my legs are feeling during this taper.

Good thing we have those experienced runners to go to, huh?

Best of luck to you this weekend, in case I do not get a chance to pop in before then. For some reason I have been crazy busy...Anyway, you are going to do GREAT.

why do our legs feel sluggish? I know what you mean, but I don't get why it happens.

I don't know why it happens, but you're right. You'll be fine for the marathon. Just try not to get stressed out this week. Easier aid than done, eh.

Good luck! and your legs are probably just in shock...I think the same thing happens to my brain after a semester of school...it doesn't know what to do b/c I don't really have to think I can really do whatever I want. Your legs just don't know what to do. Physiologically--I have no idea of why this happens.

From auntieem on Wed, Sep 16, 2009 at 22:33:06 from 67.182.145.8

To me, its more psychological than physiological. I mean, I know that physically my body is tired, and this rest is good. But the runs seem like mental work when I'm supposed to be "resting", and that's wierd for me. Luckily, we still get track workouts, which will still be fun.

Thanks you all. I'm really not worried about the sluggishness. It's kind of comforting that my body is in kind of a deep rest mode. Come Saturday morning it should be ready to roll!
