"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Slog-O-Rama.

Early lunch run. 5.7 miles. Sunny,  79F. Bluff trail.

Started feeling a little light headed/weak after a couple of miles. This happened a few months ago, and I remembered that it only lasted maybe a mile and then passed.. I wonder if it's a fuel issue. Like maybe I've depleted my carbs and my body is switching over to fat burning mode. I consumed probably about 1,000 calories between today's runs, in a period of  4 hours. So, who knows.

My total mileage for the week ending today is 71.8!

"Slog-O-Rama" - you and me both this morning

Still loving the time reported down to the second; now maybe we could get the temperature down to a few more decimal places (maybe even in Kelvin...)

WOW nice miles!! Even for a slog-o-rama. Don't know how to help you with the light headedness, but sounds like you have a good hypothisis about it.

Carolyn - "And we can sing just like our fathers."

Nevels - one man's slog is another mans 5k pace. Todays temp was somewhere in the 295K range?

April27 - better than no slog at all!

Thanks Lori (have I got your name right?). Glad to hear you won the battle with the alarm clock this morning. Good job!

wow, a truly impressive number of miles. I like your theory of lightheadedness from switching to fat burning mode. I have felt that happening myself, and it does seem to go away. I try to help it along, by suggesting places where fat might be lurking for fuel. Please, I say, take no more upper body fat!

From argentinerocket on Wed, Jul 29, 2009 at 21:51:27 from 98.204.54.245

Ha ha ha ha ha! Amen to that AuntiEm!!!

I have a similar issue with light headedness... In my case I am about 99% certain it's not about switching carbs to fat because it happens too early in the run, and when I'm not going very fast... Do you drink coffee or are you a sugaholic like me? My theory is that my lightheadedness happens after a caffeine or sugar burst goes away... it's like a shock that lasts a few minutes and then your body gets back to regular sugar levels... of course i'm making all this up :)

Nice miles, who cares how fast!

From JD on Wed, Jul 29, 2009 at 22:08:18 from 166.203.138.15

Auntieem - It's probably wishful thinking about the fat burning, I've got a 100 miles supply in my midsection, so I could get by on fat burning for a long time!

Rocket Girl - I can't contribute it to coffee because I drink the same amount everyday and have cut way back on sugar the last couple of months. So, I don't know. It's only happened twice over the year, also early in the run and only for a few minutes. It's such a weird feeling!
