"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Got to sleep too late, slept in till 6:30...no morning run.

Escaped from work at 10 AM and got my hill/heat fix on the fire break road. 85 degrees never felt so good!

PM - Couldn't leave my monthly mileage for June at 199.75 so I took the dogs on the fire break road for another 1.25.

These pretzels are making me thirsty...

Good call; I'm still working on my exit strategy for the day....

Who needs an exit strategy? Just say "mission accomplished" and call it good.

A hill/heat fix, eh. Good dog.

From Kelli on Wed, Jul 01, 2009 at 10:55:24 from 71.219.76.64

Holy Hot. How do you do that?

Great job on the mileage LAST month. Now you have to beat it this month!!

From Kelli on Wed, Jul 01, 2009 at 10:57:43 from 71.219.76.64

OK, that made me go check my mileage for June. 198.95---are you kidding me? CRUD.

From JD on Wed, Jul 01, 2009 at 12:35:37 from 166.183.165.133

Allie - Thanks. Hey, how many miles do you typically get out of your Speedstars?

Carolyn - ruff ruff!

Kelli - Here's my monthly mileage since September last year...

Sept. 207

Oct. 240

Nov. 226

Dec. 192

Jan. 231

Feb. 202

March 254

April 260

May 245

June 201

I've been working on keeping a consistent mileage base up. Hopefully in a year or two, my speed will come up to.

From allie on Wed, Jul 01, 2009 at 13:26:09 from 208.110.151.113

i have not accurately kept track of my speedstar mileage, but my estimate would be about 400+ training miles plus two 1/2 marathons and 1.7 marathons. they are retired now though. i would say about 450 miles is typical for that shoe. normally i get about 650 miles out of a shoe, but these ones are very lightweight. i see you are an asics fan yourself :)

From Kelli on Wed, Jul 01, 2009 at 15:21:57 from 71.219.76.64

WOW!!! I just checked my mileage since last July and i have only gone over 200 one time (last September leading into the St George Marathon----and I remember being absolutely exhausted all of the time). I think a good month for me is 180-200, but most months are more like 140-150.

You are one serious runner. I guess I am one serious slacker!!!

From JD on Wed, Jul 01, 2009 at 15:30:03 from 64.65.159.206

Thanks Allie. I love my speedstars! I'm a bit heavier than you, and probably don't run as efficiently, so I'll go for 350 miles and see how they're doing. I've always worn Asics. They work, and I'm a creature of habit.

Kelli...you...a slacker...now that's funny!

From Kelli on Wed, Jul 01, 2009 at 15:33:58 from 71.219.76.64

I get up and run, then sit on the computer all day to avoid having to do anything else. SLACKER!!!

(Really, I am doing homework and SICK of it, so I am now off task!!)

From JD on Wed, Jul 01, 2009 at 15:37:09 from 64.65.159.206

Seriously, from what little I know about you through this blog, you seem to be a highly productive person. I'm a little envious of your energy, and always relieved when you take a break...you do take breaks don't you?

From Kelli on Wed, Jul 01, 2009 at 15:40:42 from 71.219.76.64

Sitting on my fanny eating watermelon and taking a break RIGHT NOW!

I take breaks, lots of them. But thanks for thinking I am superwoman!
