"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

6:15 AM. From the house to LPT out and back. Clear skies, 36F, light wind. Felt better today than I have in a week.

Hoping for more this afternoon...

Lunch time run on the Bluff trail. Sunny, 53F, winds 15-22 mph SSW. Pleasant enough day weather wise, the wind blew, but other than that no complaints.

Okay, this is going to sound like fiction but it really happened. Just as my run was ending...I was hit in the back of the head by a bird! I heard flapping wings going over my head then all of a sudden wham! It felt like getting hit with a bag of sand. The poor thing, a duck I guess, was waddling around in a daze. It looked like it was gasping for air and probably got the wind knocked out of it. I hope that's all anyway. My head hurt for a few minutes afterward, but I'm not dizzy or anything. I am feeling a little shaky though.

Mile splits for this afternoon: 1 - 8:16  2 - 8:05  3 - 8:42  4 - 8:16  5 - 7:51

So you had a pretty chilly morning, but can you send the clear skies this way?

Congratulations on feeling better than you have in a week. Can you bottle that up and sell it?

Clear skies and a bottle of feel good on the way. :-)

From Metcalf Running on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 16:36:34 from 207.225.192.66

I take a bottle of feel good also LOL. But no ducks... I almost hit one on my way to work this morning, wonder whats going on with them LOL

Metcalf - The birds have gone mad!!

(by the way, I love birds. Would never hurt one on purpose...)

From Snoqualmie on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 21:43:40 from 67.171.56.164

That is too weird. I was attacked by a crow once, but this sounds like an unintentional collision.

LOL--literally--got my evening dose of endorphins from laughing (I hope the duck is OK).

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 00:04:55 from 71.229.164.25

I had a couple of birds swoop down and nearly hit my leg the other day, but getting hit on the head by a duck is really wild. That must have been one confused duck.

From JD on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 11:31:11 from 64.65.159.206

Sno - This was a case of a duck who thought humans ran much faster than the speed I was moving...

Phoenix - happy to contribute to your endorphin fix.

Carolyn - Both the duck and I were pretty confused for a few moments there.

I had a duck visit me on run today too. Maybe it was the same duck. He probably wanted to brawl. I backed down though. I know when I'm beat.

From snoqualmie on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 15:04:37 from 67.171.56.164

Hm. I think the ducks around here are looking at me funny. Word has spread.

From JD on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 18:47:12 from 166.128.227.49

Lysa - A video would've been hilarious - especially the still of my face just as I'm getting whacked!

Jun - Yeah, given the choice, I'll never mess with a duck.

Sno - It's a duck conspiracy...there coming to get us! Better duck!! LOL!
