"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Rest day. Ran 3 with the dogs. Tried to run 2nd mile fast, got 6:45. I figure on a good day, with fresh legs, cool temps, and someone to pull me along I can get under 6:30. I think if I work at it, I should be able to break 6:00 in 2010.

That is fast! You call that a rest day?

From Lysa on Mon, Sep 07, 2009 at 18:55:36 from 76.23.52.240

you are speedy gonzales, and why only 3? are you feeling okay?

From JD on Mon, Sep 07, 2009 at 19:26:14 from 209.183.51.46

Thanks Bec. Sorry about your cat.

Thanks Carolyn. I guess it should be called an active rest day.

Lysa - only 3. I've run ten days in a row and was going to take today off but I couldn't do it! It was nice to get myself and the dogs out of the house for some fresh air.

From auntieem on Mon, Sep 07, 2009 at 19:56:34 from 67.182.145.8

I'm sure the dogs enjoyed your rest day.

If you are going to break 6:00 in your mile, I'll commit to that also. Did you just say that to challenge me?

From JD on Mon, Sep 07, 2009 at 21:04:43 from 166.183.32.95

Auntieem - ever since you ran 6:10 for the mile it's been eating me up inside! :-) But yeah, let's do it! Maybe a goal to break 6:00 by the end of '09?

From redrooster on Mon, Sep 07, 2009 at 21:05:21 from 71.219.136.195

JD, less than two weeks to TOU, you are looking great, I hope to see you at the marathon (even though i am not running it, I'll probably run back on the course as my long run since it goes through my town). Enjoy your taper!!

From Lysa on Mon, Sep 07, 2009 at 21:17:08 from 76.23.52.240

JD, you are amazing. You are so going to rock your marathon. 6:45 is something I cant even imagine doing. I am such a turtle! sometimes I wonder if I should just walk fast, I might beat my time!

From april27 on Tue, Sep 08, 2009 at 00:37:54 from 99.188.251.180

Are you guys talking about breaking 6 to run in a race? or just one mile? either way that is amazing! Oh and I have my money on Aunt..hahaha!

From auntieem on Tue, Sep 08, 2009 at 11:24:59 from 67.182.145.8

JD - Yes, I think I can do that by year's end! I will have to find a new track group to practice with, since I'm too lazy to do it on my own!

From Snoqualmie on Tue, Sep 08, 2009 at 12:08:53 from 24.18.192.33

Did you read Sean Sundwall's race report from Monday by any chance? I love his description of how different he felt in the race compared to his last training run. May it happen to us all! :)

From JD on Tue, Sep 08, 2009 at 12:46:30 from 64.65.159.206

Thanks Redrooster! Maybe if I see you I can get you to pull me to a quick finish...

Lysa - I know that feeling. Sometimes on a run I figure I might as well be walking.

April27 - Just one mile. Smart money would definitely go on Auntieem!

Auntieem - I thought you were running with a track group. Did you do your mile time trial alone? You could probably run 6:00 today since you've already run a 6:10!

Sno - yeah, I read that. Race day is much more pleasant when it all comes together at the right time.

From Kelli on Tue, Sep 08, 2009 at 14:00:24 from 71.219.97.42

Oh my! I could not run a mile that fast with a team of dogs pulling me. Nicely done, good luck training for that 6 by next year, I will be watching for it.

From JD on Tue, Sep 08, 2009 at 15:44:04 from 64.65.159.206

Kelli, I have no doubt that you would beat me today in a one mile race. But it would be a blast for me to try and keep up!

From Kelli on Tue, Sep 08, 2009 at 16:51:41 from 71.219.97.42

I am NOT blowing smoke here, there is NO WAY! I can not run miles in the 6's, really. I think I may have done it twice in my life under very extreme circumstances, but it is rare. And it was like a 6:58 or something close to 7!

I am not speedy, but I can run forever. That is why I choose LONG races over the dumb short ones---I hate those things!
