I can't believe how many days of this last year I have spent injured. Ever since I started trying to run seriously I have continually injured myself. It began last December, after running for almost 3 months with 30ish miles a week, I injure my foot trying to run too fast for too long. That little learning experience takes me off the road and puts me on the couch for a month and a half. Then, a few months after I get back, I try to do some speed work again and end up injuring my quad. That takes me out for another couple weeks. After my 25 mile run back in May, I was drained and needed more rest than I gave myself. My milage dropped off and I had trouble motivating myself. Not really an injury but still time taken out from this new pursuit due to my inability to deal with my new expectations. Finally, on June 18th I sprain my ankle. Not just a little roll, but a full on pop and broken bone. I have not run since. Probably wont run until the month mark has passed. It's getting discouraging. Am I over doing it? Are my expectations of improvement unreasonable and causing me harm? Should I slow down and give it more time? I don't know, but I'm sick of being on the sideline. |
