Today we woke up and went downstairs for breakfast, and decided to go down to the course later than everybody else in Ryan's car.We got there at 10 and started warming up. We checked out the course and it was so wrecked. The entire course was covered in a couple of inches of mud, and the little ditch that we had to run through 4 times was filled with 6 inches of water. We got back to our spot and somebody had stolen Jon's spikes so he had to race in his trainers. We got to the line and had to wait for 15 minutes as they announced everybody. When the gun went off everybody went out pretty fast and it was a nightmare trying to move up in the pack. After about 200 meters the mud started and there was no longer a single dry spot on the course. I was with a couple AF and Orem kids for a while during the first mile, and when we came through it was so crowded that I couldn't see what the clock said. On the second mile I just ran with a couple Ogden kids and Caleb from AF. Two mile split was 10:32 and my legs were so dead from all the mud that I felt like I was walking. Throughout the course there was four spots where we had to run down into these little ditches that were filled with about 6 inches of water, and on the last one I almost fell over going through it. In the final 200 meters I was in the middle of a giant pack that I couldn't really get out of so I just kind of finished with all of them. My time was really slow, but that was because of the mud which is a bummer because I really wanted to go sub 16 for a full 5k, but whatever. Our team got 15th because we had 4 guys injured. I was so mad that Davis qualified for nationals after we destroyed them at state, but it was mostly out of our control. Now I just want to go and compete for the win in the Frosh/Soph all star race at Footlocker. |
