Ran through Millcreek and Holladay.  I heard that Olympus High is getting an 8 lane track, new swimming pool, turf football field, and 6 brand new tennis courts. I am glad my tax dollars are being put to use.

I have heard that only 36 cents or so on the dollar actually goes into the classroom and the rest goes to facilities, transportation and administration.. When I was in high school our swim team had to go to the old Deseret gym for practice time, our track was just a 4-6 lane asphalt composition surface and we had a few tennis courts. Oh yeah, we also had a student body of about 700 students at the time. This was during the boom time in the economy in the late 80s!

Is Olympus High going to get a track team now to go with their spiffy new track?

Good question. When I attended Olympus we technically had a track and cross country team but very few people took it seriously and most of the good athletes played other sports. I always thought I would be a football coach some day but maybe I should volunteer to coach the cross country team. Or maybe I should first get my own coach so I would know what I am talking about. I think you should leave Alta to save on gas and take over the position. I am sure the students would like you better than the current AP US History teacher.

I am very excited about the new track - it's only a mile away from my condo so I can just jog there for workouts. I went by Olympus the other day - just a bunch of flat dirt. But they are making progress!

I'd do that Fritz if it weren't for the policy of "protecting their own" that virtually every school district has. Most districts will only pay you for six years of teaching experience in another district. I have sixteen years in so I Would forfeit 10 years on the pay scale.

The only reason I mentioned it is because I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen Olympus at a track or cross country meet.
