Race on Saturday.  Can this be a considered a taper week if I did not have any high mile weeks?

Today was the Bonneville Shoreline Trail Marathon.  This is a great race.  No bibs, only 3 aid stations to mess with, roughly 7,000 feet of elevation gain, roughly 7,000 feet of elevation loss (according to Garmin so don't believe it),  and no entry fee (just bring food to share)!

Mileage wise I've not had any long runs since my last race in February!  Thus my plan going into this was to start slow, progress slowly, asses if I wan't to turn around at the ~10 mile aid station, finish slower.  I ran my plan, did not turn back, and finished without blowing up.

My time was roughly 30 minutes slower than last time I ran this race.  Fastest mile- 8:19.  Slowest mile- 22:32.  I had no real issues. The worst part was at mile 25.5 where after running downhill or rolling for quite a few miles there is a short uphill walker.  I knew it was coming and was worried about leg cramps.  A few steps into the ascent and wham, leg cramps.  However I was able to walk through them with just a few more steps and had no more issues.  All things considered I felt pretty good after the race.  It amazes that even with lacking training and on a grueling course like this, an easy effort made for a much more pleasant finish than a hard push at St. George.  I wonder how sore I will be tomorrow?

Next up is the Steeple Chase in June.  I really hope to train better for that but life is so busy right now.
