It is almost exactly 3 miles from my work to the state capitol and that's where I ran to for lunch.  I joined my 9 year old daughter and her class as they marched to the capitol and rallied in support of clean air for Utah's school children (and the rest of us).  It was inspiring to watch these excited kids.  I wonder if any of the legislatures got it?

I hope the legislatures pay attention to these children who are our future leaders. Tell your little girl I'm proud of her.

you give the legislature more credit than I would. :)

Very cool run Fly. I feel for you and the air problems you have there in SLC. We have our share, but at least we have some wind to blow it around.

When's your next race?

Thanks Smooth.

Who said anything about giving the legislature credit?

I'm not sure if I'll do something shorter before, but I think I'll run a trail marathon in April.

Our air along the Wasatch Front (SLC and the cities north and south) is good most days of the year. Unfortunately we have to breath every day of the year. We get high levels of ozone with the heat of summer afternoons but least you can still run in the mornings. Worse are the winter inversions we get. High levels of very fine particulate matter (PM 2.5)get trapped and just hang in the air for days.

Ooops. I just made the mistake of reading the reader comments on the Des News article about this. I guess I shouldn't be surprised by the ill will, malice, venom, malevolence, and contempt aimed at my daughter and her young cohorts for expressing their frustration with being forced indoors during recesses because a bunch of know nothing scientist and doctors claim the air is unhealthy to breath. I guess I should have told her to shut up and be happy for not living someplace worse. Perhaps I should tell her to keep quite or move out. Should I tell her that her ideas are worthless and she was just being exploited?

Sheesh. Makes me want to join a private club (places that serve stiff drinks in Utah).

Oh fly I am as conservative as the come and yet I agree with your daughter and am so proud that she was willing to fight for what she wants. (I looked for her/you on the news last night.)

Our neighborhood has been trying to fight the West Bountiful power plant but we have been told it is pretty much a done deal... I hope not!
