Thanks Barry. My biggest issue lately is that I've been sick. I've had a bad cold and have really been weighing the pros/cons of running. I took yesterday off, and that didn't seem to make a difference one way or the other. My run today was pretty difficult, and I don't know if it was a good thing to do or not. I don't feel any worse, right now, for doing it. I have heard that exercise can stimulate your body to recover from illness quicker. All in moderation, I'm sure.
The only race I have on the calendar is a marathon next May. I live in Colorado and I think you're in a similar climate (Idaho?). For me, it's been tough to simply get motivated to run in this weather, let alone prep. for a race. I think after the first of the year, I'd like to line some pre-races up.
I have been sick lately also and let me tell you that is really sucks. Some thing that I use to help me stay motivated is I like the feeling of loosing weight and I try to keep a goal in front of me like races or even just a daily goal. When I think about the week ahead of me I get stressed out, but if I take it one day at a time I don't. And even the short time goal helps. For example I would like to run a 1:28 half marathon. So I did some research and found out what I needed to do to reach that goal and I am now doing it. Also, if you are unsure what kind of running schedule you want runners world has some really good workouts for runners. Here is the web site. http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/smartcoach/0,7148,s6-238-277-278-0-0-0-0,00.html?starf=&lrdy=0&slen=16&trainstart=ds1228781059410&startf=checkforward&hour=0&mins=0&secs=0&rlen=fivk&rdst=fivk&mpwe=11&diff=mod So the best thing to do is take it one day at a time and enjoy it, also running with music helps. I am not sure if you like treadmills or not, but what is what I run on in the winter.
I am also planning on running a half marathon in March. I hope this helps.
