am: 3 had a stomach flu...if you get what i'm sayin.

midday: we drove up to the state course and ran it once just getting used to the course.

pm: we warmed up 2 miles and i was feeling sick still. but got to the line and was feeling a bit better. the race started and i made my first mistake... letting everyone in front of me. in about 5 seconds there was 200 kids in front of me and i was trapped. for the first loop i was just trying to get around people weaving in and out off and on the course and finally got to about 50th and was around all the top kids in my region and i knew i was way behind the front group. after being tripped into a tree and loosing 3 more seconds (mean kid!) i started going better and had more room to pass and soon got into about 15 and i could start to see the front group, manz leading sarrel mainly, but i had a lot of negitive thoughts.

one by one i started to catch kids, i'd start to pass them and they'd go with me 2 or 3 times then finally they'd brake. last mile i got to the third main group and went with them for a while until i broke from them and passed the 6th place guy. last half mile i pushed and started gaining the 5th guy but i just didnt get him.

well i'll say i was a bit disappointed with this race although it really wasn't terrible. i just can't get stuck behind a bunch of kids cause i'm not too good at kicking it in hard...cooled down 2 miles and chatted with a lot of people. now i just got to go win herriman and i'll be alright :)

Wow you really moved a lot over the second half of the race. Getting out hard is just part of the XC game (I hate having to run that way)

Yeah, it cost him a top 4 spot (at least). Miles 2 and 3 were things of absolute beauty though - without a doubt the fastest 2/3 miles of anyone on the course today.

I'll say, passing that many guys and not giving up when stuck in a bad spot shows how tough of a racer you are, Mike.

Now just get out in the front 5 next time, and you'll only have to pass 4 guys :-)

haha thanks jake, i'll remember that from now on :)

i'm just glad this happened here so i could get it in my head to get out faster instead of a more important meet when there is no next time!
