Been feeling really terrible this week. Did  7*(1min on - 2min off) in an attempt to get my legs moving. Felt ok. Fortunately, there was a math problem embedded in the workout.

1st loop of liberty park contained 4 minutes of fast running and 6 minutes of slow running.

2nd loop of liberty park contained 3 minutes of fast running and 7:27 of slow running.

A loop of liberty park on the wood chips is 1.46 miles.

Assuming that my fast and slow running speed stayed constant throughout the workout, what were those speeds (in mins/mile)?

Assuming 6:00 is fast and working from there, I got 7:30 for the slow. Sorry I have no equation to back it up bit I think the math works...

Ha ha ha ... The best thing about allie's approach is that is a general solution that is not dependent on your particular workout. However, I am not sure that her approach adjusts for the variability that might be present --- might I suggest incorporating a little error variance, by way of a m by m variance-covariance matrix, V? Maybe start with a little auto-correlation?

Nice!!! While I think you might have enough observations, I think it might be possible that the model might be non-identifiable.
