Short-Term Running Goals:

I would like to run an Olympic Trials Qualifier in the marathon.

I would also like to run on one more international team before I pack it in!

 Stay healthy!  (My biggest challenge!)

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run my whole life, and then live vicariously through my children. (just kidding) , but I do want to pass on a healthy lifestyle to them.

Help coach East High to a state championship. (hope it doesn't take a lifetime!)

Personal:

I've been running since I was nine.  I'm married to a fellow runner who inspires and supports me.  We have two children:  Cole (4) and Lily (18 mos.)  I help Bill Cobler coach cross country at East High School.

I did not have high expectations for this race.  You need to train before you can race well.  But, I needed a starting point, and I was trying to support Bill's race.  I actually really enjoy this race.  It is a fun one.

I warmed up two miles by Hogle Zoo.  It was very cold, and in hindsight I wish I had worn my tights.  My legs never felt warm the entire race.  I ran pretty consistently at about 6:05 for the first two miles, and tried to move faster down the hill toward East High.  I was running by a guy who would not let me pass him.  I moved by one girl, but she stuck with me and passed me entering the stadium.  (She's in high school, which adds to my out of shape humiliation!)

The positive is, I ran a very even paced race.  The downside is, I got beat badly by a lot of women.  This was a good motivator to get in shape, because I know a lot of these women are going to be running the LDR Circuit.

I ran 2 miles cool down with Sue, Devra, and Rosie.  It was fun catching up with old running friends!

Nice job. A sub 19 5k and you still had a lot of woman beat you? Nice competition.

Hi Emily! I didn't know you blogged on here! Great job in your race yesterday especially so soon after having your 2nd baby! Looks like you're getting back into shape quickly. I must admit, I'm a bit jealous of the Utah running scene where there's always old friends around to cool down with. Happy training!

That makes sense. I remember that time you were talking smack about her, Nan. I was like, "doesn't she realize that she's a blogger?"

Just kidding! I just like to stir up controversy.

Burt,

Are you being sarcastic?

It's one of my better qualities KristEn.

Ah, second baby. Congratulations! I was running 22-23 minute 5k's after my second child :/ Perhaps lighter training during pregnancy helped clear up lingering injuries? I wish I lived closer and could do the circuit. Maybe I'll make the effort next year. What do you think the downhill was worth in this race, 60 sec? I was checking out the results since you said there were several girls ahead of you, and the times FREAKED me out, until I saw that it was a downhill course. Still, seemed like half the fast girls in state showed up and had a nice race.

KP-expect extreme sarcasm and rudeness from Burt (no, Burt, haven't forgiven you yet!!! jk)

Michelle - KP is more sarcastic than me. She even admits it in her profile. If you haven't forgiven me yet, I guess I shouldn't have posted those new pictures of you on the discussion forum under the Pre thread.

Sorry for hijacking your blog Em. You really did great!

I picked up on the sarcasm! Nan's way too nice to say anything mean . . . don't worry, I can take it.

The course was fast, lots of downhill. Of course, this means I'm even slower than I thought! I'm good friends with the race director, and we worked together to recruit a really good women's field. I think several of them are running the circuit, so look for more fast times. Definitely good motivation to get back into shape.
