Long-Term Running Goals:

Run my whole life, and then live vicariously through my children. (just kidding) , but I do want to pass on a healthy lifestyle to them.

Help coach East High to a state championship. (hope it doesn't take a lifetime!)

Personal:

I've been running since I was nine.  I'm married to a fellow runner who inspires and supports me.  We have two children:  Cole (4) and Lily (18 mos.)  I help Bill Cobler coach cross country at East High School.

W 2 mile warmup. I starrted a tempo run but my left hip began to tighten up. Then I noticed a catching behind my knee. It felt like it could tear if I kept going. So I bailed. I guess it's time to get this thing under control before it turns into a really serious injury. I hope I am being smart and not just wimpy.

There's nothing "tough" about tearing a part of your body!

Stay healthy!

smart smart smart. i've had this "catching" before and i pushed through it -- bad decision. i had to drop out of the ogden marathon at mile 17 because of it and that was...not fun.

i'm not sure if this is the same thing you are experiencing, but mine started at the hip as well, then the "catching" sensation, then it felt like everything behind my knee was twisting up like a rubber band getting tighter and tighter. it all became so tight and painful during the marathon that i could no longer bend my leg, so i had to drop. see the article below for a possible approach to treatment (if this is in fact what you are experiencing). i hope you can figure it out and get back to it soon. good luck.
