Personal: I am married and have two wonderful kids, 14 and 10. I've been running since 1982. I never get "basic" injuries. I always get the real nasty career threatening kind, like stress fracture of the sacrum, ganglion cyst clamping down on my peroneal nerve. Favorite Blogs: |

Today ran a pretty solid 15 miles. Didn't really plan on going that far, but wanted to run the second half of next Saturday's half marathon course. Started out with an easy 3 miles on the trails in Hawthorn Park, then headed out on the course and ran 6:45-6:55 pace the rest of the way. Not even sore from yesterday's race except for left hip flexor. Had a little GI disagreement along the way, but overall felt great.

Ran a pretty solid 13 miles w/ Jacki this afternoon, same course as last Sunday in 1:31:45, about 3 minutes faster than last Sunday. Down around 6:40 pace on some of the mile. Temp really warmed up though, and humid, 79. Started to struggle the last couple of miles, but still held pace. Now for a couple of easy days to prep for Saturday.

Ran a somewhat tough 8 miles with Dave and Jacki tonight from Meadows, through Deming, Woodridge and Robinwood through Rose-Hulman and back. Had 31:20 half way, 58:56 at the end. Struggled in some spots. Didn't feel well earlier in the day, but with some OJ and a decent lunch, I was OK this afternoon. 4 more days until the race. Now for some easy rest days!

Accidentally deleted last week's entry. Just barely made in a mile tonight. Cold is taking hold and legs are completely dead.

Once again struggled on the run. Now developing congestion in my lungs... In Bolingbrook. Made it 1.75 miles barely at 8:30 pace. Didn't get in town last night until about 1 and went in to work at 8. Now, drinking OJ, Gatorade, "Sticking" and resting up, hope I can still race on Saturday.

Ran The Blues At The Crossroads Half Marathon today in a pretty
decent 1:19:50 for 2nd overall. Pretty tough course, but handled it
pretty well. Temp cool 59 at the start and a little humid, but good
conditions. Fighting some pretty bad lung congestion as I came down
with a cold when I was in Bolingbrook earlier this week. Explains why
legs were completely dead for two days. Went out the first mile with
eventual winner Tim Monaghan in 5:47 and had to let him go, I wasn't
going to maintain that today! Splits: 1 5:47 2 11:40 (5:53) 3: 17:37 (5:57) 4 23:36 (5:59) roughly 45 seconds off the lead at this point and only about 20 seconds on 3rd 5 29:48 (6:12) 6 35:58 (6:10) wondering at this point if I was going to break 1:20 7 42:02 (6:04) 8 48:13 (6:11) 9 54:27 (6:14) 10 1:00:53 (6:26) Hitting the hills now! Trying to accelerate on the down hills to hold off 3rd place 11 1:07:16 (6:23) 12 1:13:27 (6:11) 13 1:19:39 (6:12) F
1:19:48. Splits are off my Garmin rather than course markers. Garmin
was dead on right through 4 miles, then it started to lose. Others in
the race had 13.08+ on their Garmins. No problems at all with the left
groin muscle. Excellent effort, but work week really got in the way, and there's things I really need to be working on.
