I thoroughly enjoyed the training for this race, and successfully finished ahead of my tertiary goal  :)  The primary (3:25) and secondary (3:30) goals slipped away about 23 miles in when cramping set in just above my right knee.  Each time I would try to press the pace back down to where I might be able to sneak under 3:30, the leg would complain mightily - ah well.  Not gonna stress over what may have caused it, I think I was well trained and well hydrated/fueled, so I'm cool.  I do know that I never really got the weight down to where it should be for me to run a marathon.  No plans to jump into thinking about another anytime soon, but won't rule it out for the future.  Lisa, Cynda and Trav all were on the course all morning and supported me well - that was fun.

Congrats Doug - good to hear it went well for you. I could tell you enjoyed the build up - my guess is that the weather was probably a little warmer and more humid than ideal - and that may have contributed to the cramping. The FB photos were great.

Thanks, Bret. Yah, the guy coaching me said the same thing about the weather being deceptively rough. Not brutally warm (60-65), but 100% humid at start and only dropped to maybe 85% by end. Speaking of coach, he threw down a nice BQ 2:46 PR in his second marathon - he's 30 and a really good guy - pleased for him.

Love the attitude Doug. The marathon is tricky. Glad you're willing to take another shot.

Yes, Rob - maybe Tally 2015 will be far enough down the road to forget the way I'm having to walk today... Its been too long since I've been in sprinter/mid distance mode, so gonna try that for several months once I recuperate. Looks like outdoor Masters Nationals is in North Carolina in July - hmmmm
