Personal:

Der Hammer is a nick name I picked up from my German friends while living in Germany. My real name is David. 

 I have been running seriously since March 2007.  I started with a local running group called "Gilbert's Gazelles".  Before that I had run a couple 5k's (26:00's) and never run more than 3 miles at one time.  I have lost about 40 pounds in a little over 2 years. 

I am 45 years old, married and have 2 children, ages 5, girl, and 10, boy.  I try to keep my running from interfering with my family as much as possible, e.g. getting up at 5 am.  However, Saturdays are long run days and I don't come home until around 9 am or so.  I owe my family a debt of gratitude for allowing me to pursue this passion.

Met up with James and Tom for an easy run - we went on Scenic and then back on Expo - wanted to get off the trail as it is getting a bit boring.  I added about 2.5 afterwards - no one had a watch so I am saying 12 miles knowing the route.

7 miles - I honestly didn't feel like running until I opened the door to find cool air hitting my face.  63 degrees felt splendid.  7ish at a good clip - no watch.

Weighed myself on Saturday at the gym - same scaled I have been using - just a hair below 161 - I'll take it.  Lots of base, drop some more weight, and then build up the strength again - that's the plan anyway.

4.25 at lunchtime.

6 early with 5 x short hill sprints to loosen up those hips!  There was a lone deer standing next to the street at the top of the hill watching me.  When I walked down she was about 3 feet way staring at me.  I asked her if she though I was crazy but she didn't answer.  Her eyes said it all.  :-)

4.5 miles at lunchtime on Townlake trail. I had to work downtown today so I had a chance to take advantage of it.  Ran a mile to Zilker park and ran a couple on the grass and then back.  Hot!

3 out and 3 back - lots runners out in the neighborhood - where are these people when it's 40 degrees, windy and raining?

8 miles in 59 minutes on the indoor track.  It was too hot out by the time I had a chance to run.  Finally broke 60 for a week.

Finally cracked 161 pounds.  It took a full week to lose a pound - looks like the "easy" loss is over.
