Der Hammer is a nick name I picked up from my German friends while living in Germany. My real name is David. 

 I have been running seriously since March 2007.  I started with a local running group called "Gilbert's Gazelles".  Before that I had run a couple 5k's (26:00's) and never run more than 3 miles at one time.  I have lost about 40 pounds in a little over 2 years. 

I am 45 years old, married and have 2 children, ages 5, girl, and 10, boy.  I try to keep my running from interfering with my family as much as possible, e.g. getting up at 5 am.  However, Saturdays are long run days and I don't come home until around 9 am or so.  I owe my family a debt of gratitude for allowing me to pursue this passion.

Back to the basics for this chap.  Nice cool morning, slept in until 7:00 then 2 miles easy followed by 10 x 400 @ the local middle school track.  1 minute rest in between.

10 x 400  1:18, 1:19, 1:19, 1:16, 1:17, 1:16, 1:17, 1:18, 1:18, 1:19. 

Legs got a bit tired on the last on so I decided not to push 2 more or add any 200m repeats.  Heart rate was maxed out on the last 2 - I can tell I really missed running the repeats leading up to Boston.  I won't leave this component out of my training ever again.  I used to be able to run 16 of these at this speed.

Nice 400s. I guess if nothing else, the heat at Boston saved you a lot of recovery time. Still impressive you could run that fast less than a week later though, nice going.

Is nice on the recovery side. Despite feeling good I am allowing a full week before speed work, 26.2 is still tough on the legs. Good paces, glad you listened to the body and called off the last repeats.

That looks very good. I am starting into speed work again next week, hoping to peak for Grandma's. I'll have to remember to do some 400 sessions. They are the hardest so I guess I subconsciously avoid them.
