Personal:

Der Hammer is a nick name I picked up from my German friends while living in Germany. My real name is David.

I have been running seriously since March 2007.  I started with a local running group called "Gilbert's Gazelles".  Before that I had run a couple 5k's (26:00's) and never run more than 3 miles at one time.  I have lost about 40 pounds in a little over 2 years.

I am 45 years old, married and have 2 children, ages 5, girl, and 10, boy.  I try to keep my running from interfering with my family as much as possible, e.g. getting up at 5 am.  However, Saturdays are long run days and I don't come home until around 9 am or so.  I owe my family a debt of gratitude for allowing me to pursue this passion.

Great morning for running - no one else on the road these days - not sure where everyone is.  I only saw 2 other runners.

During this morning's run I contemplated how fortunate I am with the area of town I live in.  I can literally choose routes in every direction from my house.  I have flat courses, rolling hills, and mega hills, and even trails if I choose.   I have lived in this house over 3 years and found a new route yesterday that I really enjoy.  It has some nice rollers and then some flat parts.  Ran it again this morning but took it a couple miles further.

Today I ran by feel most of the way though I glanced at my pace occasionally. Hit some good aerobic base miles.  Most miles in the 7:50-8:05 range with the last at 7:45.

Ahhhhh I see you're JUST RUNNING too...!

Hey, are you really going to Boston next year (2012)?

From derhammer on Thu, Mar 03, 2011 at 11:52:33 from 192.156.110.32

Yes, I want to steal your moniker! It's perfect.

I will have both laptops fired up and ready to go the exact minute registration for Boston opens up for "the rest of us." If I get registered I am for sure running it in 2012. I will probably do a fall marathon as well - maybe San Antonio.

BTW - My friend and I are going up for this - you should take a look: http://www.elscorchorun.com/

You could have it, I could just use "I JUST RUN SLOWER" :)

It's funny you say that about registration, my Daughter wanted to go to the Collegiate Tri-athlete Finals in April. The Tri coach, for some reason, didn't sign up the team in time so she was left to sign up as an individual. Well they only take 100 non-team entries. Registration started at 12:00 noon yesterday. She was logged in and ready to submit her application at that time but because her computer couldn't process fast enough she didn't even get entered. They were full within a couple of minutes. She's really bummed...!

I'll look closer to that crazy thing in Ft Worth and consider it. That's always a good direction for me to go since Callie goes to TCU.

I'm the "rest of us" and I too will have all my systems running!

Dan - you still have time before September to go out and run a 3:15 so you get early registration! :-)

From Dan on Fri, Mar 04, 2011 at 22:51:23 from 24.209.83.20

Well I have a marathon I want to do in September. Its that Saturday of registration so if I did break 3:15, I'd only have one extra day (if you can even do so on Sunday!). Maybe I will try a spring one too - but I do not want to get crazy!
