Personal:

Der Hammer is a nick name I picked up from my German friends while living in Germany. My real name is David.

I have been running seriously since March 2007.  I started with a local running group called "Gilbert's Gazelles".  Before that I had run a couple 5k's (26:00's) and never run more than 3 miles at one time.  I have lost about 40 pounds in a little over 2 years.

I am 45 years old, married and have 2 children, ages 5, girl, and 10, boy.  I try to keep my running from interfering with my family as much as possible, e.g. getting up at 5 am.  However, Saturdays are long run days and I don't come home until around 9 am or so.  I owe my family a debt of gratitude for allowing me to pursue this passion.

Too cold this morning so found a couple guys running the 10 mile MGP run after work.  After some mix up at the meeting point I saw the guys take off on the trail so I had to play catch up for a couple miles.  I did OK until about 3 miles to go.  Slowed down quite a bit.  I really feel out of shape.  7:23, 6:42, 6:46, 7:02, 6:55, 7:11, 6:53, 6:54, 7:10, 7:10, . 5 @ 7:07.  .5 warm up and cool down.

Is it possible for cornea's to freeze?  Towards the end I couldn't see well and was blinded by on coming traffic, and my corneas felt scratchy.  I wonder if that is due to the cold wind?  It took about 30 minutes after the run before my eyesight was normal.  Strange!

Nice run David! I would feel out of shape too if I ran a 6:42 mile!! I often get blurred vision in cold, I think just from watery freezing eyelashes, don't think I have ever experienced a lingering effect ... that is strange.

Nice run. Good to see some MP miles. Sounds likeyour eyes were pretty dry (obviously freezing corneas would cause that). I had Lasik 10 years ago and my eyes were very dry after that (itchy, light sensitivity, halos around lights). Freezing corneas - sure sounds possible. It's been cold!

One other weird thing i run into with my vision onnight runs is from the light on my watch. Took me a long time to figure out the cause, but sometimes when i check my watch at night it kind of has the same effect as looking at the sun. I look at my watch and look away, still "seeing" the light. Just like when you look at the sun and look away - temporarily partially blinded. That one tends to linger for a half hour, too.

DH, If anyone would know about freezing eyes or eyelids, Matt would be the one.
