Last night the IT band on the same side that's been giving me trouble in the knee area got quite sore up in my hip area [which is not the same hip nor pain I had a few weeks ago]. I woke up and couldn't even sleep with it and had to take some ibuprofin. It's been a little sore there since late last week but just got a lot worse. I've barely done any running in the past week so I don't know why this is getting worse. I've been doing a whole lot more ITB stretches this past week and also doing some self massage on it. I wonder if this has brought some of it on. None of the stretches are new to me, but I've been doing them maybe 4 times a day compared to once a week and sometimes missing a week or two in between that I was doing them before. I did the eliptical yesterday also [which I haven't done in a while] but I wouldn't think that would bring it on. I did a 15 mile bike ride today and it felt good until near the end when it got a little sore. I'm going to have to really be cautious the next few days and take it very easy on my stretching and see what happens.

Hang in there Dave. If you have one nearby, I've seen foam rollers at Target in their exercise section. Your hip might be barking because of the stretching. Mine did that when I got too aggressive with the old side lean stretch. You can also consider doing some hip hikers for some PT at this point.

On more than one occasion I have further irritated an injury by stretching and massaging. I think I get too aggresive with my massaging and really end up causing more problems. Hope it starts feeling better over the next couple of days.

Robert, thanks for the ideas. I was doing a lot of side lean stretches as well as some others so that is likley the cause. I'll be traveling through a town that has a Target next week and I'll check it out. For now I made one from some things I had around. I wrapped a piece of 1 inch thick foam rubber around a piece of 6 inch PVC pipe.

Jeff, I've done the same thing a few times before too. Some day I might learn. In the past I had gotten away with aggressive ITB stretches. Guess I'd better be careful now.
