Nice morning for a run. It started cold again but the sun quickly warmed things and it was calm. Just did another 8 miles at a comfortable pace. Everything is feeling pretty good. It seems like I come away from most marathons with some lingering issue but so far so good.

I'm wondering what I'll feel like when I get back to running in a few days. My darn knee just won't go away (comes and goes) but that was a previous issue. I'm wondering how the rest of my body will feel when I run. Right now it seems pretty normal.

Oh yeah... I was going to ask your opinion on the 3200 ft downhill at the DNM, is that really hard on your legs?

I've had a couple of marathons where I have felt great the week after and jumped right back into normal training only to wind up with injuries. I've also had a couple marathons that I ran with an [injury like you did] and had it take a few weeks to get back to normal. I would just get out and start with some short easy runs and see how everything feels. I had a little calf and quad soreness in my first run after Boston [that wasn't there when I wasn't running] so I only went 2 miles and took a couple more days off. If your knee is the only problem and since the doc told you that you wouldn't damage anything by running, I would take ibuprofin and keep running if the ibu stops the pain. Even if you feel great I would still keep next week fairly easy.

I have never run the Des News marathon but it does have some pretty major downhill. If you can get in some good downhill training you could run a pretty good time even at that altitude. If you did it without much downhill training it can be very painful on the quads. You probably don't have a lot of hills around to train on?
