I think I overdid it a bit yesterday with about 10 miles of hiking and 8 miles running. My hip was feeling a bit sore again so I didn't run today.

Went back out hunting in the evening with my son and hiked 4 1/2 miles. We called in a nice 5x5 point bull and I had a chance for an 18 yard shot but decided to pass. I was still hoping to get a chance at the large 6x7 bull  and I also thought that my son who was about 15 yards from me might be able to get a shot. It came within a few feet of walking into an opening that would have given him a clear shot but then he stopped for a bit then he winded us and was out of there in a hurry. We are very fond of elk meat and have almost finished eating my elk from last year so I may live to really regret my decision not to shoot.

Hey Dave, You remember that old saying about one in the hand is worth.... anyway it sounds like you are getting into some decent action on the elk. I hope that the cross training [elk hunting] will be beneficial as a training aid for the SGM. I am still trying to recover from that Nebo Half last saturday. That PR came at a cost as my legs are still feeling the affects. Good luck on the Elk, Jim F.

Hi Jim, That leg soreness isn't too big of a surprise after that race and probably nothing too worry about as long as you take it easy until you feel recovered.

Believe me the bird in the hand saying has been coming to mind. Bryson forgot his release that night and didn't want to shoot at first or he would have been in my position for the shot. After it got that close though he was ready to take the shot with his fingers.
