18 mile progression run this morning. My alarm didn't go off this morning and I didn't wake up until almost 6. Got out the door at 6:30 and felt slow. First 4 miles I averaged just under 8:30 pace. Next 2 miles at 8:04 and started feeling good. Miles 7-10 averaged 7:41. Miles 11-14 averaged 7:21. Last 4 averaged 6:54 pace. Nice morning for a run. 47 deg to start and just under 70 to finish. Big temperature range for one run. I saw deer [including a doe with 2 very new fawns], lots of ducks, a pheasant, hungarian partridge, a wild turkey, a blow snake, a run over rattle snake, a lizard, and 0 vehicles [except for one fisherman camped at the reservoir].  I felt pretty good on this run but sure wouldn't have wanted to run another 8 miles and especially can't imagine doing the whole 26 averaging 50 second/mile faster pace than I ran this morning. Seems impossible. Overall pace for 18 was 7:39.

8:25, 8:27, 8:25, 8:30, 8:04, 8:04, 7:48, 7:38, 7:39, 7:40, 7:31, 7:20, 7:17, 7:17, 6:58, 7:07 over big hill, 6:55, 6:37.

PM   Went for 15 miles on the mt bike right before dark. took it easy the first half then hammered pretty good coming back.

Sounds like you run in a game reserve. I saw a dead skunk on the road the other day :-), can't remember exactly what day since it's been so long ago! I'm with you on the the 26 based on my running lately. I thought it was just the heat that had me in a mental funk.
