Did an 18 mile mountain bike ride this morning. My back is feeling better but I don't want to risk aggravating it more. Running while it is sore seems to aggravate it a bit but biking seems fine. I have had this lower back thing flare up on me 5 or 6 times over the last 8 years. I have had times where it took weeks to get back to 100 % but that was before I got into running. The last 2 episodes [since I have been running ] have been less severe and haven't lasted very long. I rode the second half of my ride at a harder pace than I have been keeping my heart rate in the 150s and 160s. Total time 1:12. Some of the freshly graded gravel is getting packed back down but there are still some very slow spots. I'm not sure but I may try a short easy run later I'll see how it feels.

Hi Dave, Thank you for the comment. I forgot to mention that I did also tighten the strap the other day so you may have hit the nail on the head. It looks like you have a well balanced training program. You guys that get in the rides and the swims on top of the running really know how to stay in shape. You mention going sub-3:15/3:10 this year. Do you have a marathon in minde? Keep up the hard work.

Adam, I'm planning to run St. george this year. If I don't get drawn I'll either do Pocatello again or TOU. I'm planning to do the 1/2 at Ogden and go for 1:30 but its coming up fast and if I don't get healthy here pretty quick to the point I can at least start getting in a few tempo runs I won't be expecting much. At my age the injuries seem to come on more easily and I think riding has helped with that by giving me a little more balance. It's also nice to pick up on the riding when I have to cut back the running. If I had a convienent place to swim I'd like to do a little of that to but the closest indoor pool is down in Logan about 30 miles.

I hope you get into St. George. However, I can say that TOU was a great course and very well run small marathon. Sorry that your back has been a problem. You are in amazing shape for 48 and have made great progress for only running 2-yrs. Good luck I'll be optomistic and look for your 1/2 race report in a few weeks.
