2 mile easy run warmup in 15:06, 7:32/mi, HR 161, w/ 0.5 threshold effort.

Hard race.  Still feeling a bit of the effects of the stomach bug I caught a couple days ago, but mostly recovered.  1st mile in about 5:45, including ratcheting it back at the 0.5 mile mark, so I went out too fast.  Really hurting the last 2.1 miles...no real kick at the end.  Not sure on time yet....didn't manage to hit the watch right away and the times aren't yet posted.  But it definitely was a PR.  A good reminder of how much 5Ks can hurt!

Did get to meet fellow blogger Jeff just before the race, thanks to FRB jackets we were both wearing (evidently, he can run and pay attention to his surroundings at the same time).  He won the 5 miler....by what looked like a mile and a half.  Wow.

Official results finally published.  18:31...a PR by 7 seconds.  Now I need to run another when I'm not sick.  Waah.

Congrats on the PR!

Two runners in FRB jackets and I missed you both. Maybe if I wasn't so far behind I might have noticed you :)

Congratulations on a PR! This looks promising. I really like 5 K PRs. Marathon, even half marathon PR - well you just got more endurance. You had the check, you finally took it to the bank. That is boring. 5 K PR is where the real excitement is. It means you have more Quality X than you thought. They wrote you another check!

I would say this shows you can go under 2:50 in the marathon.

Hurts just reading about it! But well done! Congratulations.

Thanks all. Unfortunately, the PR isn't as good as it looks. I put in 18:3x as an estimate since I didn't managed to hit the stop button on my watch for several seconds, but looks like the blog decided I meant 18:03. I really think it was closer to 18:29/18:30-ish, but am still waiting for the official results to know for sure.

On the other hand, I definitely was running it sick. I feel like garbage again today and a nice easy 6 mile effort got cut short at 4 when I was working way too hard and running way too slowly. So maybe it'll all come out even in the end. Perhaps the 10K in a couple of weeks will be better.

Nice race, I hadn't returned yet but the weather sounded nasty. Looking forward to racing together sometime in 2010 (and maybe some other Pacific NW bloggers, eh?).

Plenty of us around, David! :)

I read Ratteltrap's and Jeff's reports and wondered if they were the same (other than the fact that Jeff did 5 miles and RT did 5k) or if there were many New Year's races called Resolution races. That's cool that you got to meet. Great job on the 5th overall place.
