After the letdown of a run at Brighton, I met a few people at Wheeler Farm to get some miles in. We did 2 total loops around the farm along with a long loop down to Murray Park. Very nice weather. Perfect
PM: Took the kids over to Hidden Valley Park, at the top of Wasatch Blvd. Teresa and I did a couple loops around the park (each loop is 1/2 mile). The kids rode bikes. Then we took a quick hike up the canyon to a small waterfall. That was about a mile round trip. | | Add Comment |

| My ankle was bothering me, so I got in the pool at lunch and did 200m of laps and 500m of pool running. Judging by the time and effort spent, I figured it was equivalent to 4 miles. After the workout, I went to the airport and got on a plane to New Jersey. It's supposed to be hot and humid out there, so we'll see. | | Add Comment |

AM: I didn't get in until about 3am last night due to air traffic control issues. So I slept in. I got out running about 8:30, but it was just too hot by then. The heat and humidity almost killed me. (4 miles)
PM: Got out and did the 4 mile loop again. Still hot and miserable. It almost reached 100 degrees today in New Jersey. | | Add Comment |

AM: Did some elliptical, barefoot running on the treadmill, weights, and pool running. Not as hot today, so I'll get out in the evening. I'm changing it up and bit and doing half my workout indoors to relieve some stress on the achilles. It seems to work pretty well.
PM: Did 4 miles and felt pretty good. I pushed it up and beyond marathon pace a few times just to see how I felt. No problems. | | Add Comment |

A.M. Ran Heart of Holladay 5 K in 17:29, 14th place. The race was very competitive as expected. I was actually expecting a few more fastrunningblog people, but the wasatch team was out in full force 'cause they were sponsoring the race.
I warmed up with my friends by running the course and then doing some pickups at the start. I got a good feel for the course, but actually racing the course makes the downhill feel faster and the uphill feel tougher. I could tell it would be pretty fast until mile 2, and then the last mile would be brutal.
I ran the first mile at a good pace of 5:25. I was right on the threshold of being uncomfortable, which is what I wanted. I ran by Sasha a bit, but he pulled ahead with some other faster runners. I soon noticed that I was at the back of the fast running crowd, which I prefer over the front of the mid-pack crowd.
The second mile starts with a slight up, then goes down, and flattens out. The downhill is super fast, but I thought it would make more of a difference on my time than it did. Instread, I came through mile 2 at 10:45, so I kept a 5:20 pace that mile.
The last mile had the brutal hill that just went on for days. I got fatigued and felt myself fighting it. I finished off that third mile in about a 6:05 pace and finished off with a 5:39 pace overall. Not terrible. | | Comments(2) |
