Personal:

I know Sasha from the CS program at BYU. We both graduated in 1997. He probably doesn't remember me, because he was definitely more vocal in class and among the students than I was.

Married to Teresa with 3 kids: Anders (4), Kristian (9), and Zoe (12).

Fluent in Danish, but there is obviously very little need for that.

Awesome day. I met up with the group in the evening for speedwork at Cottonwood H.S., but I didn't get there until they were leaving. I did get a chance to talk with Jason a bit about his training, and gave him some advice on increasing his consistency and weekly mileage. He had a decent 1/2 marathon last year (1:44), but didn't have the mileage for a marathon. Needless to say, he crashed and burned at Top of Utah.

I did a few miles easy in normal shoes in the morning. No big deal. The real test came in the evening at the track. The high school installed artificial turf this last year, so I wanted to try out my Vibram Five Fingers on it. I tested it out with a warmup mile- no big deal. The ground was surprisingly springy and the barefoot shoes felt great. Then I did 2x800 at tempo pace. The repeats felt great- better than any recent intervals I've done. For fun, I did 4x100 sprints at the end on the football field. Crazy fast. I couldn't believe the quick turnover you get when you don't have shoes weighing you down. I'm definitely doing that each week while I can. I'm afraid the football team will start practicing soon, but I'll make use of it while I can.

Feeling good this morning after the barefoot workout last night. I decided to wear the Mizuno Waverunners without the high arch support. It felt pretty good. I went out on the paved trail and saw a couple guys in my neighborhood. Pascal is registered for St George. He was running with Steve B, who also runs the typical 1/2 marathons during the year (Moab, Salt Lake, etc). I'll have to ask if he is training for anything. I counted 8 guys and 1 girl in my immediate neighborhood (ward) doing the St George Marathon this year. That's a pretty good ratio.

I pulled a Sasha and made an errand out of the run, grabbing some milk at the store on the way home.

Very rainy morning. I wore shorts and a long-sleeve tech shirt. It was kind of cool for that. I saw others out on the paved trail all bundled up. Whatever. 7 miles- felt good.

Trail run. I felt fatigued today, probably because I've been eating junk at work and not getting enough sleep. It will be good 3 weeks from now when this release at work is over with.

Brutal run with the group up at Brighton. It snowed on us the whole time. Not typical June running.
