Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

AM - Easy warmup, then I ran a couple miles at MP.  I wasn't originally planning on it, but again, this is a sign to me that the horses are neighing, and my body wants to go faster.  4.2 miles in a total of 32:56, avg pace of 7:50/mile, then 0.8 with Sparky untimed, for a total of 5 miles for the morning.

Hi James, I've been feeling a little bad ever since I declined your kind invitation in the forum to form a 3:15 pace group. I've reconsidered my plans for various reasons.

Since then Will has asked to join Nathan and me targeting 3:15. We all work at Novell and are on the same Wasatch Back Relay team. I think we'll all probably stick together at least until Veyo, and maybe to Snow Canyon, but I doubt we'll hold together much beyond there (but we might).

You are welcome to join our group. We are planning to meet near the 4th or 5th bonfire (whichever is closest to the road) prior to 6:25am. At that time we'll drop our clothing bags in the trucks and try to find a good start position. Let me know if you would like to join us and we'll keep an eye out for you. The more the merrier.

Thanks, Paul. I have decided as of today that I have 3 different time goals, and how I feel the morning of the race will determine what pace I am going to run at. If I feel really spunky and pumped up, I am going to go ahead and shoot for 3:10, come what may. If I am feeling a little more down to earth, I will plan on running with you and your group and shoot for 3:15, and my third goal would be to shoot for 3:20. I hope I will get to meet you on Friday, and otherwise will look for you on Saturday to let you know what my plans are.

James - I suggest you with the 3:10 plan until Veyo or unless it becomes exceptionally apparent that you cannot hold the pace. Then set a goal at mile 8. Re-evaluate at 13. Do it more more time at 16, then at 20, then take it a mile at a time.
