Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

AM - Ran 6 easy miles this morning.  For some reason, I was feeling a bit paranoid about my calf, probaby because there are only 3 1/2 weeks before SGM, and I would be crushed if something happened at this point.  Still took it easy, as I will continue to do the rest of the week.  I gained some weight from the forced inactivity the last week and a half, so I am seeing it slowly go back down.  I still do not feel 100% - my aerobic capacity is not at its normal level yet.  I attribute this to continuing to recover from being sick.  We will see how things go the rest of this week.  Total time for the run was 51:58, average pace of 8:40/mile.

Keep plugging away James. You can make it. I know what you mean about being paranoid when the race is close.

From Lybi on Wed, Sep 12, 2007 at 10:59:26

Good job, James! Way to jump back in. I think being paranoid at this stage must be part of the whole marathon experience, judging from some of the other posts on this blog, so you're in good company.

WIll keep my fingers crossed that all goes well from here on out, your gonna do awesome keep up the hard work!!

Like Lybi mentioned, there's probably something wrong with you at this point if you don't start obsessing a bit over every ache and pain. It look's like you've been getting in some good mileage over the summer, so you should be able to maintain your fitness with some shorter runs and ease off if you start to feel sharper, sustained pains. There have been several marathons that injuries kept me from reaching my goals, but it's still such an amazing accomplishment that you should always be happy giving it your best effort. In any case, good luck with your calf. Maybe I'll see you along the way as I'm also targeting sub 3:30.

Ditto what everyone said on being paranoid the last 3-4 weeks before a marathon. I just remember last year about this time I tweaked my back running down Payson canyon and couldn't even hardly walk for a day or 2. Luckilly the heavens smiled on me and everything ended up going great. Hope the same happens for you.

From Clay on Wed, Sep 12, 2007 at 12:51:08

James I will take the injury for you, just send it over to me and I will take it on my shoulders, I have nothing to do at this point... Keep up the good work, your going to be fine. "Believe Baby! Just believe".
