Very slow run. Average pace: 10:05.

5 am, 33° F, 67% humidity, wind 3 SSE.

I can't blame it on the shoes today. I guess I was just cold and tired. It was noticeably colder than yesterday morning. Yesterday I took of my gloves for most of the run. Today I was wishing I had a second pair of gloves. And it took me 2 minutes more to run 10 miles today than it took me to run 11.5 miles yesterday. Splits were 10:30, 10:23, 10:25, 10:05, 10:11, 9:59, 9:53, 10:00 9:46, 9:38.

Hey Carolyn! No worries! Your body probably just needed an easy day. Take care of yourself in the cold.

From Snoqualmie on Wed, Nov 04, 2009 at 11:12:20 from 24.18.192.33

You still managed to get in some really good miles! Slow usually translates to less miles for me. Good job.

Ten miles in the bitter cold...that's a great accomplishment. I'm in awe at your dedication to keep running every day in the snow and cold.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, Nov 04, 2009 at 12:18:59 from 198.241.174.15

You know, I wouldn't have to run in the cold if I could manage to run at a different time of day. It's cold only in the wee hours of the morning. We're actually having quite pleasant weather overall. It's supposed to get into the 60s today. So it's my own darn fault.

From The Quiet Pirate on Wed, Nov 04, 2009 at 13:04:41 from 24.199.205.252

I'm in the same time boat. Mornings start early, and I'm either busy or unmotivated in the afternoons.

I think starting the morning off with a run is one of the best ways to start the day. When I don't get a run in, I just don't feel the same.

I'm glad it's warming up for you in the daytime. That snow needs to melt and the ice needs to dry up so you won't have to worry about slipping on it.

How is your neck/shoulder feeling?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, Nov 04, 2009 at 13:07:36 from 198.241.174.15

Afternoons are out for me because I have to work until 5 or so, and evenings are just too busy.

My neck is still a little stiff, but not too bad. My shoulder/upper arm hurt at the beginning of my run, as it has the last two days, but is okay other than that. I really think the shoulder/arm problem is related to the neck problem. They're both on the left side.

From The Quiet Pirate on Wed, Nov 04, 2009 at 13:15:09 from 24.199.205.252

I can imagine with 4 kids that your nights are full of all kinds of activities.

Especially the high school kids. If they're involoved in extra-curricular activities, then there's always something going on.

When is your big trail run? It's coming up soon, isn't it?

From RAD on Wed, Nov 04, 2009 at 14:36:30 from 76.27.12.70

Nice work Carolyn! You've done some good hard workouts back to back for a good couple weeks now. Your body needed an easy day, enjoy it. I understand about the cold, even when it's warm in the early hours it's still actually cold :)

Glad to hear the neck/shoulder is letting up a bit.

From JD on Wed, Nov 04, 2009 at 15:09:25 from 70.96.78.157

You have had a lot of tough workouts/mileage the last couple of weeks. 10 easy miles is just the thing, probably, to let your body benefit from all that good work.

We're having the same weather situation here. Mornings are in the 30's, but it warms up very nicely once the sun's out.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, Nov 04, 2009 at 15:39:56 from 198.241.174.15

QP, my big trail run is on the 14th.

From Kelli on Wed, Nov 04, 2009 at 18:41:39 from 71.219.97.106

It is nice to have a slow day! And, man, it is getting cold there!!! We are still enjoying much warmer temps. We hit 74 today!!! Come and visit.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, Nov 04, 2009 at 19:05:57 from 198.241.174.15

It's not so cold during the day, Kelli. Today has been on the cool side, but we're supposed to get into the 70s tomorrow and Friday. It just can't seem to warm up for me at 5 am.

From Kelli on Wed, Nov 04, 2009 at 19:26:19 from 71.219.97.106

I think at 5 am yesterday it was 42 here, we will see what it is tomorrow! Too bad you can not run in the afternoon and avoid the cold longer!!
