I wouldn't normally wear the trail shoes for a run like this, but I wanted to see whether I could run fast in those shoes because I've been feeling like they've been slowing me down and I'm trying to decide whether to wear them for my race on Saturday. I think I've been running slowly in them up until now because I was wearing them on easy days. I think they did okay today and I'll probably wear them on Saturday.

AP: 8:36. Splits: 9:28, 9:09, 8:05, 8:01, 8:10 (big long hill), 7:40 (hooray - I'm past the hill), 9:15, 9:03.

I saw Team Michelle out running when I was leaving the school after the seminary drop-off.

Sounds like you ran fast in the trail shoes! I don't know the Brooks line very well; I've got narrow feet and Brooks never fits me.

What is your race Saturday?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 10:12:24 from 24.8.167.243

A trail 1/2 marathon.

Nice job on the hill and keeping your tempo paces! PLUS a 7:40...Rockin'!

Glad the shoes are treating you well and you'll get your money's worth at the race on Saturday!!

Trail races are quite a bit different than road ones (as you've already found out) and therefore require different kinds of goals. Do you have a time you are hoping for, considering it is such a hilly course?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 11:33:16 from 198.241.159.80

I've never been on the course before. It's composed mostly of recently created trails. Apparently portions of the course are not open to the public yet. All I have to go on is this from the course description: "This is a hilly course that is 95% trail. It is scenic and challenging."

If this were a road race, I'd be shooting for about an 8:00 average pace. Given that it's a hilly trail race, I suppose I should be happy if I can manage an 8:30 average pace.

Great times in your trail shoes. It's wonderful that you found out it's the slower paced runs that were responsible for your slower paces, and not your shoes.

Now you can run with confidence knowing your trail shoes are FAST!

I know you've got a crummy forecast for Saturday. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that the precip holds off until after your run.

You seemed to maintain your speed today just fine in those shoes.

Every time you mention Michelle and Michelle, I think of a one hit wonder band from the 80's(?) named "David and David", they had a song called "Welcome to the Boomtown".

Great HMP tempo in those trail shoes!
